Here's a site with a description and some pics: Viper 791XV Responder 2-Way LCD & Remote Start
Now I can do what all of you dudes did at the last install-fest. hehe... I'm going to be doing the installation myself. I'll probably write up a DIY too. I've read through the installation guide and everything seems straightforward. I'll take things nice and slow and try to make everything perfect. Later I'll add the remote start module and the remote trunk release. Then I'll be rockin'! Oh yeah...

Rep Power: 302 Awesome man!!! I have the Matrix RS 3, with the CF Matrix 2.5 Remote.
It's basically identical to yours, both are from DEI. Nice gift man, you'l be happy with it, and amazed at the range of the remote .

Rep Power: 304 The remote start module is a PITA for standard trannys because you need to install a neutral check system according to DOT Safety laws. You might want to have that part done at a shop...just a suggestion

Rep Power: 304 Dont get the 555U if it's the one that doenst use a key, they tend to fail, and activate the ignition kill. You want the module you have to get an extra key for.
The neutral check system is kinda compilcated for manual trannys....if you want more of a description of how it works PM me.

I'm looking at getting a car alarm too, although I'd never attempt my own install. All those electrical wires makes me feel like I'd really mess it up. Good luck with the install and congratulations

Rep Power: 395 Woohoo! It came yesterday just in time for my birthday! Final price: $234 shipped. I'm reading up on alarm installation. I have to figure out what else I need to buy for the install.

alarm DIY install
hey Grey ...
You said you read through the installation guide before you got the system? Is the guide available online? I'm considering doing my own alarm install and would love to get a look at the installation guide. I've never installed an alarm but I've done a number of complicated sound installs. Any info you can pass along would be appreciated. Thanks!

thx grey
thx Grey... I (obviously) hadn't looked around the Directed site enough before asking. Let us know how it goes. Like you said it does seem relatively straight forward. If your DIY works out I'm going to try it myself. These new two ways from Viper/Clifford/Python are just too nice. If you don't mind me asking... why the Viper? I kind of like the proximity sensor on the Clifford. They all appear to be about the same money so I'm trying to figure out what (if anything) is really that different other than cosmetics. Thanks again.

Rep Power: 395 The Clifford comes with a proximity sensor? I didn't know that. I liked the Viper's remote better than the Python's or the Clifford's. Plus I heard some reviews of that proximity sensor where people would get false alarms in the middle of the night with things like cats, squirels, birds, and other animals getting too close to the car. I also checked out the prices and the Viper was the least expensive (another plus). I got it for $234 shipped.

close but not quite
Grey... I must not have enough caffeine in my system! I would have sworn that Clifford Responder came w/a prox sensor but I just went back and looked and the prox sensor is an add-on for viper/cliiford/python responder alarms. I confused the responder series with the Clifford G5 series. I had looked at the Clifford G5 Intelliguard 850 which comes standard with the proximity sensor. I think the prox sensor sounds like a good idea. The current models have two settings. The first setting "sees" outside the car but will only trigger a chirp or no response at all. When the alarm gets a hit on the first setting it switches to a second setting that only sees inside the car supposedly eliminating almost all false alarms. Directed has the prox sensor listed as (i think) an $87 add for all the responder alarms. Sorry for misleading you. I've got to go to bed earlier or drink a lot more coffee. BTW... how's that install going?

Rep Power: 395 I actually haven't started yet. I haven't had the time lately. When I do start (maybe today or tomorrow) I'll report back with some findings.

Rep Power: 296 So this is a good alarm? I plan on getting it soon, my friend has it and loves it, another friend has the 790 (last year model) and also loves it.
My friend said he can get it and install it for me for $280 (he and his brother own a stereo shop).
Should I go for it?

I am extremely interested in getting the same viper alarm (or the Clifford Matrix 3.5). However, I am looking around for good prices before I buy. You said you got yours for $234 shipped? That's a good deal! If it's not too much trouble I was hoping that you could tell me where I you got your alarm or maybe you could point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

Rep Power: 395 Good luck! Can you believe that I haven't even started yet? I've had like 0 time lately. I was job huntin' and weddin' plannin' and what not. Anyway, I'm starting to work on my car again. I need to fix a bunch of things before I can install the car alarm though.
