worcester people...

So im graduating in May and I'm thinking about staying in worcester for a year or so instead of heading to NJ cause I'd really rather live in MA, eventually Boston area when I have more money. But anyway, do any of you commute from worcester to boston on a daily basis, is it feasible? Also, if any of you rent houses or places in worcester, whats a good price for a 2-3 bedroom place since id be renting with 2 other friends. thanks guys.

I live right next to worcester and commute to just south of boston (Quincy area). It takes 45 minutes one way, not too bad really except for in the winter. The Mass pike is the best plowed road in the state though, so it helps...
You could drive in or what I would do is take the commuter rail in everyday if you want to work downtown (parking will be wayyyy too much)....
For rent, it's really tough to say, it depends in what town you want and how nice of a place. You can get a pretty decent 2 bedroom place in a "luxury apt" in somewhere like shrewbury or auburn for only like 975. Again, location matters a ton, my friend has a ok place in worcester for 500 and another has a condo for 1500 in Grafton that is gorgeous.... The general idea is that the closer to boston you get, the more you pay...

yea thats what ive noticed. my sister lives in westboro and the places in that town seem to be even more than shrewsbury, which is like 5 minutes down the road. ideally, we want to find a single family house for rent in worcester. we've seen ads for like 3 bedroom homes for $1200 a month, but exactly where in worcester these are is the question. I dont want to rent anything in a bad area. My friends made that mistake last year and had their place broken into.

Good areas are places like burncoat and greendale area, out by leicester (sp?) airport (tatnuck square?), mainly the outskirts of the city... You can even get some halfway decent cheap places around WPI (salisbury (sp?) street, isn't that where you go to school?)....

Avoid the obvious places like great brook valley (obviously), downtown area and around it....

Main south and piedmont street have nice places right Phil???

You can find some nice places at decent prices if you just take some time to look...

Consider Ayer or Leominster? Train runs out of there as well and it was a nice area when I was stationed there in the early 90s. Since the base closed down (Ft. Devins) I am sure there is some inexpensive rentals up there

That's pretty good, I'd say. I live in Boston now (Charlestown, actually), and if you got that here it would be a great find.

Actually, the apartment below me is for rent now, if you want to move to Boston. Let me know if you want the info...

I live in Cambridge and I found a terrific deal - they're out there if you do your snooping. My source for info on that was Craig's List - there are all kinds of places listed there and that's where I found my place. Imagine 564.00 for living right in the heart of the city by the water - though some think my place isn't terrific, for the price and space I have, it's good living...

Oh Keith, Main south? I have no idea what you're talking about...it's a great place to work...er, live

Ayer isn't too bad but Leominster reminds me alot of Main South or GBV worcester.... I definitely would avoid most areas, but they do have some decent places too.... I spent plenty of time in Leominster since my buddy lived there and he had nothing but problems with vehicle break-ins....

Grafton would be decent since there is a commuter Train station. My sister pays peanuts for her place there, and it's a great area.....

oh come on, the GBV isnt THAT bad. funny story though, we were in a cab on the way to the bar about a few weeks ago before break and a call came across for a pick up there and none of the on duty cabbies wanted to go there. apparently they get robbed a lot in there and things get thrown at them. who would have thought. but yea, im around the salisbury/tatnuck area cause i go to Assumption. but there are tons of places around WPI, only problem is that they get taken up so fast by the students. but all those areas you guys mention are great. as for boston, when i move in like a year or so, i was thinking about medford, brighton, etc.

GBVville represent! LOL. I love the Ghetto. Anyway, my fiance and I have a nice duplex up in Tatnuck near the airport. Only $750/mo. If your looking for low cost, stay in Worc or points west. Anything east of 495 you'll get rammed.
