Rep Power: 0 Bored... so what do you think
Yep, I'm bored so I just read the new Honda Tuning (I'm sure most of you have done the same). Anyhow it got me thinking, I know this topic has been covered in the other swap/induction forum, but what do you guys think is the better engine for our cars overall, including $ amount. I know the K20 has 240hp blah blah blah, but reading the article got me interested in the K24 the crv engine. It has more torque and cost a heck of a lot less. Depending on where you find one, about the same cost as a turbo setup. Just thought I might start a new thread.

Rep Power: 324 I am pretty sure if it was better and more readily avaliable for less money, somebody would have thought about that before dropping multiple K on a K20a2. But why don't you fansy us with some stats about the k24 and if it is even swappable into the 7thGen

Rep Power: 390 Grey and I were just talking about this the other day....
We both agreed it would be better to start looking into the K24's as a more reasonable ($$$) swap with all the benefits of the K20. Prices would be much more reasonable and parts are already starting to hit the market....
Expect the idea of the swap to start growing over the next year......
EDIT: Connie, take a look in the swaps forum, some people have done a K24 swap....

Rep Power: 395 The new Accord has the K24. It has 160hp and more torque than the Civic Si. 2.4l displacement istead of 2.0l. 161 ft-lbs of torque instead of 132 ft-lbs.
The CR-V has 160hp and 162 ft-lbs of torque. It makes this at 3600 rpm, while the Accord engine does it at 4500 rpm. Hmm... I don't know which one I'de like? Maximum horsepower is acheived at 6000 rpm for the CR-V, while the Accord makes it at 5500 rpm.
I'm sure that it depends on gearing too, so I think that the trannies for the CR-V and the Accord are geared differently as well. Maybe a CR-V engine with an Accord tranny would do well? Maybe the opposite is true? I'de have to calculate this out.
All I know is that the K24 series of engines look promising.

Rep Power: 0 the RSX- S with all internals puts down (or out) 261.9 hp @ 8186rpm w/ 170.1 lb-ft torque. No turbo or supercharger, while the Si has the K24 bottom and a K20 top along with a supercharger. The si puts down 292.6hp at 7552 rpm w/ 228.2 lb-ft torque. This is all to the wheels, not the flywheel. They said that they're gonna tune the SI more to break 300 whp. Sounds pretty good to me.

Rep Power: 560 if someone does the k24 swap, they should try doing an awd conversion also with the crv drivetrain. a 4wd civic would be sweet!!! add a turbo to the k24 and you will have a street monster that you can ralley with.
if youre gonna do something, might as well do it all the way. hehe

Rep Power: 395 There you go. My thoughts exactly. I know that the CR-V uses the same chassis that we do. Just different suspension. Although that suspension adds some height. I don't know the exact specificatioins yet, but I'll find out if it's workable. I guess I would need a CR-V tranny though.

Rep Power: 390 I think a K24 swap is a great idea.... It will give you comparable power vs a turbo and you can still throw a turbo on to get even more power.....
Hmmm..... I wonder where I could find a K24 cheap...... Hmmmmmmm.......

Rep Power: 305 Good luck putting an AWD system on a civic...there is no room in back for a differential, or axles. Then you have to find a spot for the transfer case, front and rear driveshafts...you would have to lift the rear of the car, and do some pretty serious modding of the underbody....would probably end up costing you more than an STi or Evo.
The AWD civics in Japan have a different underbody shape, thats how they have room for everything......

Rep Power: 303 My mom's K24 is damn quick. Can take Derrick's GSX off the line haha. But yeah, awesome engine. 2.4L is great for boost too. If I blow my engine, I'ma fabricate the SF kit to a K24, such a much better platform for FI.

Rep Power: 305 hmm...hydraulic fluid eh? Intresting....even so, the rear end has to be shaped different...as i'm sure you know, the rear of the car doesnt have room for the halfshafts or the differential....all the parts should bolt right in, but you would need to cut some body back there to get it to fit. Too bad you cant get like a hayes manual for the JDM cars.
