Cool...hope you can make it Kev.

JS: Is it rattling against the window? You should go to home depot and get some foam weather stripping kinda stuff...you can get 3/4" wide and 1/2" thick, sticky on one side. It's black. We did that on Havok2k1's car during his install, and it works pretty well. The other alternative is carpeting it like I did on mine, but that takes a lot more time and there can be fitment issues after.

Yeah, the V1 worked so well that I got a ticket the second week I got it.... Problem is that it gives you a false sense of security..... Promptly returned it..... Krepoort got one recently too even though he had it....

Haha. But you said the detector went off and you ignored it.

And like I said, it works well if the cop isnt pacing you...on a dark road you're not familiar with...

Thats where learning headlight design patterns and checking your rear view come in handy.

[soap box rant]

Radar detectors are useless. Trust me...I know.

In the many trips I've driven I can tell you that observing traffic patterns and being smart is more a key to preventing tickets, than any $400 piece of plastic.

Of the tickets I've gotten for speeding 3 of them came with a radar detector sitting on my dash. I was stupid, and as Havok said I was lulled inta a false sense of security. The ONLY time a radar detector will come into play is when you're in a group of cars and the cop targets a car ahead of you...

Don't forget cops have regular lives too. I'm sure they have experience with radar detectors in their civilian lives. Then that transfers to when their out doing patrols...

Havok's stop was a perfect example...the cop sat where he knew people get false readings...thus he knew that people would ignore the radar detector and not slow down. Think about it!!!

[/soap box rant]

Thanks I'll pick up some of the foam and I'll get some dynomat just to help out I guess. As for the radar detector I was just curious cause the V1 is supposed to be the best rated one on the market

Ah Black..I beg to differ and I'll give you some of my personal experiences.

Driving up a hilly part of the highway. Detector goes off near the bottom. I slow down from about 80 to 65. Get to the crest of the hill before I can see the cop. Saved me there.

Driving along 95 S. Detector beeps for a couple seconds then stop. After about 10 seconds, it does the same thing. I think to myself "Strange.." and I slow down just in case. Probably about a 1-1.5 miles down the road after the initial warning, I see the cop blacked out on the side of the road using the "instant on" method. Saved me there.

At least 5-6 other times in similar conditions, I've been able to "spot" the cop before the cop spotted me. So yes, a radar detector does work if you know how to use it and how not to use it. It definitely does give a false sense of security if you're relying soley on the detector, but that's not the 'correct' way of using it.

When I got my ticket, it had nothing to do with my V1. It was like 11:30 at night and there was only a few cars on the road. Some dude with some bright *** HIDs (and I mean like 3x the brightness of 'regular' HIDs) was pulling up on me so I was like "WTF" and let off the gas to let him pass. He passed on the left then all of a sudden hit his brakes. So I'm thinking "Oh, I hope he's not trying to race" and I look back to see what he was doing. Now I see another set of headlights pulling on me and then the blues came on. So for some reason the cop decides to pull me over even though the car on my left was actually going faster. Says he paced me going 90 and asked if I was trying to race the other guy. lease: Still waiting for my court date cause no way was I going 90.

So anyways........moral of the story is...Dont speed!

OK I don't want to get into a big hullabaloo about this but this is my response...

Driving up a hilly part of the highway. Detector goes off near the bottom. I slow down from about 80 to 65. Get to the crest of the hill before I can see the cop. Saved me there

You got me there. One of the few instances that a radar detector works.

Driving along 95 S. Detector beeps for a couple seconds then stop...Probably about a 1-1.5 miles down the road after the initial warning, I see the cop blacked out on the side of the road using the "instant on" method. Saved me there.

Nope. The fact there were other cars on the road saved you. If in fact the cop was using instant on radar you would have been tagged without you even knowing he was there. But the fact that he was checking other cars is the sole reason you knew he was there!

So yes, a radar detector does work if you know how to use it and how not to use it. It definitely does give a false sense of security if you're relying soley on the detector, but that's not the 'correct' way of using it.

I guess I agree. I just don't think that having a beeping peice of plastic is helpful for most drivers. In fact there have been situations in which they are dangerous becuase people rely on them too much. Case in point: I nearly rear-ended a car because they jammed on the brakes. I wondered what the hell they were doing and I realized that their detector had given them a false positive. Instead of slowing down gradually they slammed on the brakes...talk about freakin' obvious. Not only that but in most cases having a radar detector will casue a Statie to give NO consideration at all...I'd rather take my chances without one...

When I got my ticket, it had nothing to do with my V1. It was like 11:30 at night and there was only a few cars on the road.

Damn, that's happened to me twice. Damn undercover units. That and I've been in a car pulled over by a detective...long story...

EEEhhh, that's all...I'll agree to disagree on this point.

not that I want to interrupt, but I seem to remember there was a purpose in this thread..... Something about a meet happening?????

EDIT: Oh, and I agree with both of you on 2 points: 1. Radar detectors give you a false sense of securiity and 2. DON'T SPEED UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT!!!!!

Just a final retort.

iDriving along 95 S.

But thats how the detector is designed to work! Yes, if there were no other cars on the road, then I would've been tagged. But since there were other cars on the road, and since the V1 detected the 'hits' on the cars infront of me, it most definitely served it's purpose.

Case in point: I nearly rear-ended a car because they jammed on the brakes.
Why were you so close? Haha..just playin.

So yeah, we'll agree to disagree.
