2003 or 1999?

I need some help on a difficult decision. I am debating on whether to buy a 1999 or a 2003 honda civic ex. I need some opinions on which is the better buy. With all the options that I would like the 2003 civic will cost near 20,000. I could probably get a 1999 for about 8,000. Which should I get?????

What is your budget like? If you are perfectly happy with a '99, dont waste all your money on a new car. It's really just personal preference....if you want a new car and afford it, go get the '03. If you would be better off economically not getting a new car OR if you just dont care enough about having a new car, then dont get it.

Ducatti,

I have enough money to buy either. I am in the army now. I am leaving for Korea in April. So when I get back from Korea I will have 19-20,000 in my bank account. So money is not an option. I plan on getting a loan for whatever car I choose and then put that 20,000 into the car right away!

well if you want more power, 99.. if you want comfort 03.. since the 99 model has been out longer, it has more parts available (makes sense...) so it all depends on wat you're looking for.. power or comfort.. but then, if you get a 03, its more reliable since its new.. so theres pros n cons to both sides

What are you putting in it that it costs 20K?? Are you getting the FP setup or something? Just curious because you should be able to talk the dealer down quite a bit. I know this b/c the sticker on mine was $19150 (02 EX - $16950, 00 Si Rims - $1400, 6 CD In-dash - 800) and I got it for a little over 16K. Having sat in and driven both generations, I'd say the 03 is a better option unless you're getting a 99 Si, or you plan on doing some serious mods. The 6th gen seats are not very comfortable and it is smaller by a noticable amount. If you want to just drive it, the 03 is gonna be a better option. Or if you've got 20K to dump on a car with and have plans to get more money at a steady rate, but something more than a Civic.

This is Quick, I switched my nickname. Well I test drove a 2003 honda civic ex and i loved it. But I want to put a lot into the car performance wise. That is the only reason the 99 came about in my mind because there is a lot more parts out. Well comfort don't matter because I am going to get racing seats right away and already have them picked out. Well as for the 20,000 what I plan on doing is the the following:

Racing seats/harnesses
dvd player w/ 4 tv's (one in the steering wheel, one in the passenger visor, and two for the back seat)
new headers
neuspeed struts
17" konig rims
Toyo tires
wings west body kit avenger series
new spoiler
custom paint job
iceman air intake
new intercooler (dont know what yet tho)
new clutch and transmission
neons to make the car look better
lowering springs
new pedals
shift ****
vinyl the interior and door panels
radar
performance meter
tri pod
nitrous oxide system (10 gallon bottle w/ blanket)
borla exhaust
euro lights
projector clear headlights
sony cd player
(4) 10" x-plode subs & (2) 12" x-plodes
custom plexi-glassed boxes for the subs & amps
new hood and fenders
custom made graphics(not sure what)

that is basically what i have in mind at the moment.

by the way if i were to get any other car I would pry go to Japan since I am going to Korea for a year and I would try and get a 97' toyota supra. The only thing is is that i would have to get it shipped over here. I know i will be only one of the few to have that year supra in america because toyota stopped selling them around 95ish. so it would be neat to have one of them... another car i was thinking about getting was a 2003 honda s2000...

If you are goin to trick out a vic get the 99 and then engine swap it to a b18 or an h22a, just my 2 cents but that would be the way to go for power. and just a side note they made supras here until 98. if you are serious about a supra pick up the december issue of sport compact car there is a supra buyers guide in there.

well i am gonna get a 99 civic for sure now. Which engine will help me get the most out of that civic? I want to get that civic to go as fast as possible. Do you know how much that engine will cost and how I could get one? To be honest I don't know much about performance. So I could use the help. Thank you.
