Replacing the clutch

Hey, I'm new here, so I hope this is the right forum!

I was looking to replace the clutch in my '98 civic. I just recently bought it, and my dad suggested that I replace the clutch for the simple reason that he feels it doesn't engage as soon as it should. Now, since this is my first manual car and first experience with a civic, I can't say that I know how the clutch should feel.

Anyways, my question is about the different types of replacement clutches out there.

For example, there are cheaper clutches, and then there are more expensive 'performance' or 'racing' clutches.' I would just like to know, what is the difference between clutch types and what should I look out for when buying one? Do the performance types engage quicker compared to the non-performance types? How do they feel compared to each other and whatnot?

Any suggestion of brands or types or advice on anything is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, guys!
