swapping my d16y7 to a d16y8

Okay, i own a 96 civic hatchback cx. The stock motor is a d16y7 non vtec. It has 350,000 kms. The motor is old (obviously) it isn't giving me the power it should.
I was going to order a new rebuilt motor and just drop it in with the original tranny since it is still solid. Here is my real question, In the civic si, it is the d16y8. The y8 allows you to have sohc vtec. I'm wondering if the d16y8 motor would fit my stock d16y7 tranny since the y8 is only the head, right? it should line up but thats why i'm here asking you people. Let me know!

I don't want replies saying like "why don't you just drop a b18 swap or like a b16 in it" this will be my first real "swap" i'm keeping it simple

Thanks a lot

-Brad

The d16y7 has 108 hp and the d16y8 has 130 hp. IMO swap out the tranny too. The Y7 tranny is mediocre / ok. The Y8 has shorter gears and a smoother shift than the Y7
