Questions about eBay products...

hello everyone, i'm new to the Honda scene and i just acquired a 2000 Civic EX sedan as a daily driver. i have intentions of adding some little things to make it a more enjoyable DD because let's all be honest here, it's really slow and borderline boring, haha!

so my questions are this..... is there anything wrong with going with eBay products like intake & exhaust? i know for exhaust t304 stainless is good but are these companies legit with their products? i was browsing eBay earlier this morning and found a full exhaust (header, extension pipe & catback) for around $200 and i'm seeing generic intakes for around $75. that's all i really want to do to the car performance wise just to give it a bit more pep so i don't get run over by big trucks on the highway. any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Questions about eBay products...

Most of them are legit if they are saying a specific brand name. Some are scams because they won't send you the actual product they are offering but that happens anywhere and you should use paypal to protect yourself. A lot of the no name products are total garbage and will either fall apart of not function right off the get go. Be very careful when ordering from ebay to make sure your not buying garbage.

Generic intakes are good but the filter is garbage, so you will have to replace the filter with a good one.

The cheap exhausts I don't know much about.

Re: Questions about eBay products...

Just my opinion and personal experience: Anything like intake, exhaust manifold, exhaust, or any exterior bolt-ons are okay to buy from Ebay but any thing that has to do with fluid (oil and coolant) I would suggest going with OEM.

I just recently discovered the coolant leak was not only from a bad water pump o-ring but also comparing the aftermarket against the OEM I could see potential flaws in the design of the aftermarket that would cause the O-ring to go bad.

Also, make sure you look at the seller's feedback. Last night I was thinking about buying an aftermarket oil pump but after looking at quite a few seller's feedback I decided against it (member's have issues with receiving the wrong parts, had to fight months to get a refund, etc.). Just worth the trouble.

You won't gain any actual power by adding an intake and exhaust, maybe a couple horsepower, that's it.

Ebay exhausts, they claim to be type 304, but metallurgical tests usually show they're cheap type 200 stainless. The flanges are just mild steel. They rust to hell, the metal is thinner than a regular exhaust, and the flanges are usually warped. They also sound like ****.

Re: Questions about eBay products...

thanks for the info.

i know with buying from eBay that the saying "you get want you pay for" is true about 95% of the time. i'll definitely look at the seller's feedback and see if i can find more info about them before committing to the purchases.

Re: Questions about eBay products...

Most the time ebay is legitimate with brand names, if like buy ebay brand stuff like exhaust they are good but will rust easily and stuff cause you get what you pay for but name brands on there are legit.
