What's with "Our Cars"?
I hope I'm posting this in the right forum...
I love my Civic. I really do. In reading in the forums though it seems like the 7th gens have some upgrades and downgrades from previous generations. I don't know how many times I've read, "...Yeah, don't waste your money because (such and such performance part) doesn't make any difference on 'our cars'." Can anyone tell me why we 7th gen folks seem to have gotten the performance "shaft"? Why is it that previous gens can tinker the heck out of their engines and we seem to have to settle for stock unless we want to do a motor swap? Like I've said in other posts, I'm not a racer or a ricer for that matter, I just like to tinker a bit and get a more out of my car then the soccer mom next door. I guess I'm just a little disappointed that I won't be able to do more.
Anyway, your input as always is appreciated!

We are just overly critical of our cars. The 6thgens and 5thgens are just as slow as our cars are. For years the big way to get power out of civics is to do engine swaps or turbo. Not many people have done this yet on our 7thgens because its so expensive$$$.
SFPower has finally come out with a turbo kit and Hasport just came out with the motormounts at the beginning of the year. It always takes time to develop parts for a new car. The reason why 6thgens seem to have such great products is because they have had an 7 year jump start on us.
In time we will be able to achieve greatness also. Don't worry.

i. our cars are still new
ii. we're becoming extinct (the tinkerer/ racer/ ricer).
iii. it is not worth the $$ for companies to do R&D for our cars, come out w/ a product & not get a good profit.
iv. Car design is so much more efficient now, you can't get the same gains as before.
Remember- emissions are way stricter now & our civics qualify as ULEV, but STILL produce more power than the older gens, stock (well- same HP, more torque) and the bump up to 1.7L isn't the ONLY reason. It's more efficient design, which means th old cheap tricks don't work as well anymore.
Any more Questions?

Eventually you will be able to do more. But even with all gen's of civics, the only real way to get power out of the engines is to get a turbocharger or a supercharger or nitrous, and sadly those just aren't readily out there yet for our cars except for nitrous. I think they will eventually be made though. It took awhile for them to get made for the other gens of civics as well. Our cars are just to new right now. I have faith that more still will come out, especially as our cars get older. Just have faith
7thgencivic9,
I should clarify: What i meant was civics are being targeted as economy cars & the SI is expected to fill the role of cheap "Tuner Honda", that's why there is way more stuff already available for the SI & not the others
i.e. Most people who now buy civics just care about economy. Those who don't buy other cars, like the SI

I disagree with the imports becoming extinct, look at how wide spread this scene is becoming, so much so the makers are trying to get in on it. I think its more the opposite. Wait a while and youll see the the 7thgen become more and more accpeted. Where a new breed of civic so itll take a while where as before just a minor tweak of the part and they worked on all the civics whereas now its back to the R&D because the 7thgen is a almost complete redesign inwards and outwards
LOL!! Funneee!
But seriously, now we need to use our imagination. Ex those who have access to more technical doc or who know more should post.
Ex. we use the same flywheel as the one on the D16 (as long as the clutch is the same diameter)
Next month i'm gonna try messing around w/ ECU's & stuff- i'll post on wht happens.
I got a thread on the D17A2 motor here, but no one's got any new info. Someone's dug in & used a D16 crank etc...

the way i look at it is, where do most kids get their first cars? their parents. and who buy hondas? moms and dads. so once they pass down the cars and sales for honda parts go up, and companies had a chance to research and put out new parts there will be turbos for our cars cuz it IS possible. i have faith in 2006, i will be driving a turbo'd 7th generation.

But i digress, thats COMPLETLY not the point of the original thread.
