INTAKE HELP!!!
HI, last night i was racing my friend on the freeway. and my 2002 Civic EX couldn't quite catch up to his ES 300. I was pretty dissapointed, cuz i was above 100 mph for most of the race, however i think i lost because there were lots of hills and inclines, and probably my V-4 couldn't quite catch up to his V-6.
Due to this loss, i am quite interested in adding modifications to my Civic. First of all my civic is automatic, which i think is a problem. What modifications should i add to it? My car is all stock right now. I was thinking of adding Intake. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Well first of all, u have an I-4 not a V-4, which means it is INLINE not VEE. Second of all, most mods won't give you much especially if you are trying to keep up with an ES300. I say that Injen makes a good CAI but so does AEM. Either one of those is probably your best bet.
Third, do a search for your questions before you post. This is a topic that there is lots of info on throughout the site. Good luck and happy modding!

Our D17 engines don't reply too well to bolt-on's.
Some reasons why: ULEV, cat converter, and obviously puny 1.7 liter sohc engine.
Even you get the full Intake/Header/Exhaust combo, you will be slightly faster. While i don't have a dyno chart to prove you that I/H/E will give you 10hp AT THE MOST, you should trust this estimate.
Anyway, go for the Injen CAI (ptuning.com). You will lose some low end power, but you make it up on the high rpm range. (I keep repeating the same sentence in every intake thread...lol)
Header? Kamikazi
Exhaust? Whatever sounds best to you. There's Magnaflow ($300) which is very quiet. Skunk 2 ($400??) & Greddy ($450??) which are both loud... and there's DC TCS ($550) which is the best sounding one!
What else is there? uhh.. AEM pulleys ($120~), ___________ , _________ , (add stuff here)
SRI are shorter than CAI hence the SHORT RAM INTAKE name. In our cars, SRI are about 2-3 ft long, while CAI go from 4-5ft.
CAI has more curves usually. The less curves the better airflow... but since it sucks cold air it kind of makes it up there.

An SRI is short and sits right in your engine bay. A CAI, for our cars, either goes behind the radiator or underneath the bumper near the passenger side headlight. The CAI supposidly sucks in colder air which gives the car more HP.

i'm still wanting to try this but i'll say it again. this has been covered in a old thread. if you run lean you may get better usage from your simple bolt ones. civics aren't fast and its very expensive to get them quick. start with you basic intake, header, exhaust. that should get you a veeeerry slight HP increase. then upgrade you pulley and regrind your cam. after that i say custom intake manifold, Bigger cc injectors, custom throttle body, Port and polished heads, 4 angle valve job, Lighter and 2 mm bigger valves, Bored exhaust ports to equal intake as much as possible. after you get the D17 breathing better (one of its major HP problems). then with those mods you'd still only be an average "street race" car. so you'll need to take it further, get a bored and sleeved block, lower compression racing pistons, shot peen your rods, and stud the head. HMM the car still isn't fast enough, now we're gonna need a turbo. t3/t4 turbo will do fine. so now get the custom turbo kit with the HKS SSQ BOV (sounds so good mmmm). and now since your only running 4 PSI you gonna have to convert you fuel system from returnless to return. now your excited, your rollin' and smokeing all the civics and RSX's out there but you still can't beat that 91 CRX B16 turbo running 1 bar. hmmm now we gotta add NOS. hmmm, a 50 won't blow my car up so i'll get one of those. now to top it all off, get yourself a REVO short shifter and some 16" spoon rims and take it to the track.
now all ya gotta do is ask your friend to race now and you'll have a better shot. and oh yeh since you have an auto buy a 5-speed tranny and slap it in. and lastly what everyone on the site stresses you do, clear the ****in' headlights!! hahaha
if i only had money.

since you have an auto like me i will recommend the INJEN Race Division Cold Air Intake. It wont give you 12 whp like MangoEx would tell you but it will give you 6-8 whp. You cant really get much power from just an intake your gonna need headers and full cat back and maybe
v-afc or s-afc which ever one works for our cars i cant remember. Either get that or NOS or NX express.

I got mine for $300 shipped 2 my door, and put it on myself. . . then took it 2 my friends uncle for the welds (he did them for a carton of cigarettes). You don't have to get it welded but some people complain that it hangs low so i had him manipulate the pipes so that they were right against the body and didn't have those stupid U-bolts. If you don't get it welded YOU WILL GET LEAKS.
