Rep Power: 0 Better sound advice... Intakes, exhausts etc...
Well I have a brand new 2002 Civic EX , and I love the sound it makes around 3500-5500 RPM (and I'm not talking about the VTEC kickin in or nething, just the engine itself), so I wanna make that sound louder and deeper if possible.
I don't really like the engines that sound like it's explodin every few seconds, the deeper and the more constant the better...
So is there any way to make that sound louder but not higher pitched? From all the posts i've read and searches the concensus seems to be that for a better sounding engine you should go for a new Intake and a new exhaust (I'm assuming the new exhaust doesnt include a new cat, am i right?).
Would those two be enough to make a difference or do I need even more mods. If they'll help which ones (if any) deepen and increase the intensity of the sound? (I got a lot of answers when searching for best HP or performance but I'm not worried about that just yet)
Thanks to anyone for their advice, and if you don't like the question I'm sure you have better things to do with ur life than flame me, so go do them instead
PS: I just want the engine to sound better as of now, I'll take care of performance mods later on.

Rep Power: 0 - As far is intakes, my injen short ram was $130 and the sound is pretty loud for an intake, fairly deep and loud. Its much louder than my friend's AEM short ram. Gains are probably very minimal, 1-2 hp (if that) but does sound and look better.

Rep Power: 0 Sounds good.. thanx for the quick advice and kleep them coming if you have more
civicvtev1ps: Since you've had both do you prefer the sound out of the SRI or the CAI? Which one do you think is deeper, louder and more constant? (I must admit I don't really know the difference between a cold air and a short ram intake :_doh <insert newbie comment here>
I see that Injen is probably the choice to go for an intake then...
civichx81: Does taking out the resonator and adding the pipe and n1/apexi require any welding? I just wanna make sure and see if I can do it myself or if I have to get a shop to do it...
maccro: And I realize that caring about sound and not performance might be a tad "ricey"... but I'm not willing to have a speaker to fake the noise , hehehehe

Rep Power: 0 Exhaust and intakes make some serious sound differences either go with AEM or Injen SRI or CAI both are quality products and you can't go wrong with that. Btw there is a magnaflow full catback group buy if you wanna check out the group buy forum or just get custom pipping I considering getting 2 or 2,25" seems to be the right size not too loud and not that quiet

Rep Power: 0 you gotta take it to a mufflershop to get the pipe welded to replace the resonator. the catalytic converter will hold in some sound and tone which will give the deep sound.taking the cats out will give a thin tone and will sound really really loud. i have no cats,hp header, apexi n1,2.25 custom pipe, and aem sri. its really loud. ive been pulled over soooo many times.so i wouldnt recommend gutting the cats or taking em off. just get a hi flo cat

Rep Power: 0 - I don't know where you live, but depending on the laws near you, emissions can matter. The Injen SRI and CAI are not carb certified (emissions), which 90% of the time doesn't mean anything, but you can technically fail a smog inspection or get a ticket for it (at least here in California.) Or so I've heard.... the AEM intakes are CARB certified.

Rep Power: 0 I'm in maryland, so I don't need to pass the stricter california standards... But I do have to get my smog tested once every couple of years I think...

I was just readsing some of the FAQ's,... I forgot to mention that I drive an automatic!
So the FAQ's say that I can't have a CAI because they mount onto the manual transmission and they don't make CAI's for automatics...
So right now I guess I'm choosing between the AEM SRI and the Injen SRI, anyone heard both and knows which one sounds better?
