as far as i am concerned, it seems that every aftermarket part has some pro's and some cons.

revo ss: pros = short throws, precise feel: cons = more effort required to shift
dc sports exhaust: pros = better top end power, great sound: cons = more noise, a lil' less low end

i think that the only dept of aftermarket parts that have only pros, seem to be mild audio modifications..

what is your opinion?

Every aftermarket part is going to have a disadvantage of some sort. They all share one... The Warranty and the war that insues with the dealer.
But other than that, usually the pros outweigh the cons, otherwise you'd still have the stock part.
You'd think that the aftermarket part is better than the stock one, whether it be for durability or better performance (usually go hand in hand, some exceptions), looks, whatever... but you'd have to think it does something good, or you wouldn't be spending the money on it.

Yeah...I put on a Injen short ram on my LX auto...I felt a slight low end power loss. Living in a city that's what I use the most (low end) to get in and out of traffic...End result I put the stock back on and she felt so much smoother and quicker...ohh and more quiet. Then I put in an Alpine head unit and it rattled to much...so I put the Civic EX cd player in....much better looking and no more noise..The only pro I have is wheels and Dunlop tires......

If I get something I don't like, somebody else will. So I just go back to stock, sell the aftermarket part, and go on to the next thing I want to try.

you can always just get a shift **** and some racing pedals. if you can think of actual cons to those mods, you deserve a medal. hehe
and there are other mods to the car that offer higher performance and the only real con to those is the price. im talking about aftermarket brake pads and rotors (from a maker like brembo or nissin) or like weatherman mentioned better tires, or a strut bar. some of these modifications dont add HP, but they help in making the car more stable and handle much better than it does from the factory. but then again, these differences are subtle and you only really notice something like a stiffer frame (from strut bars) if youre pushing your car and cornering really hard.
its all in how you look at "performance." and then again, there are many who are perfectly satisfied with keeping their car stock. for some modding the car is just something to do...a hobby.

racing pedals tends to fall off if it isn't made correctly or fitted correctly..

in fact it could get stuck and u can't push the throttle or brake pedals down!

as for shift *****... I guess there are subjective cons too..

anyway, nothing is a perfect upgrade. dont think so anyway.

Some stuff fits and some stuff doesn't. If you have to jury rig a part, then it's just never going to be right. Usually the only way to learn this is when you get burned on a part that just won't fit right. I think that's the biggest con, no matter what a part may or may not do for looks or performance.

I was told by the mechanic that I need a new exhaust manifold for my 2002 Civic DX 144k on it. They wanted $900 to install a Honda OEM part. They said I could leave it for a few thousand miles but I should have it fixed soon.

I was thinking of buying the part and installing it myself. I found two choices online.

get aftermarket. you can also look on this forum for used oem. Why they asked you to change your manifold? you getting a CEL? there's a crack? or what?
