Exhaust Dilema

Hello!
I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex.
My car has literally no exhaust sound what so ever. So my friends and I agreed that I should rice it up. What we original did was we cut off the resonator and just ran with a muffler. It was at that point audible, it was the perfect sound. It wasn't loud by any means, but it wasn't loud enough. So we cut off the muffler and it was awesome. It was nice and loud with a great rice sound. The only problem is is that it is straight pipe so its mostly frowned upon, and I think it was a little too loud. So what I was thinking was to put the resonator back on and just run with a resonator. Would that sound good and quiet it down a bit? Or is there a better plan for less than $100?

Re: Exhaust Dilema

Putting the resonator back on would quiet it down again. I actually ran just the resonator for a while after my muffler was hitting my sway bar. I didn't think it sounded to bad. It did sound better when I made an extension to send the sound further back. Before doing that the sound would get trapped under the rear bumper and cause a highway drone. Here is a pic:
