Iridium plugs?

Im not much of a car guy, especially with the electrical. I have a 2005 DX coupe, 150k miles, had stock plugs installed at 75k or so, i know its not a necessity but are iridum plugs really worth it? and what exactly is different than the original ones?

If it makes any difference, all i've done is got a catback magnaflow and AEM intake in

Re: Iridium plugs?

Originals are Platinum. No significant advantage to Iridium, IMHO.
Both are pricey.
Factory says they are 100,000 mile plugs. But as long as fouling isn't a problem, either type should easily outlast the life of the car, wear wise. The gap shouldn't ever widen significantly the way conventional $2 plugs will.
If your engine consumes oil and fouls plugs, it would make no economic sense to use the high dollar plugs at all, since they are soooooo easy to change.

Re: Iridium plugs?

As already noted, there's not much of a difference. The only real "difference" is materials. Some will wear faster than others, but that's about it. Kind of just depends on if you want plugs that will last a long time, or if you want to just save some money. I swapped out to NGK Nickel from the stock Denso plugs at ~72K miles. I'll be checking the gaps about once a year just out of curiosity on wear/life.

Honestly, I haven't had a problem with nickel plugs failing much quicker than platinum. But, that's my experience.

I own a 2002 Honda civic Dx coupe. Auto Part stores say to use Platinum's but i heard that the regular V-powers work the same way? What do you guys think?

Yep NGK V-Power's will work fine, just will need replaced after 30k instead of 100k. Personally I don't like leaving plugs in the head for 100k, I had one seize up in my sisters Civic and stripped out the threads. Fixed it with helicoil but it was a nightmare.

Acceptable, use NGK ZFR6F-11.
Be aware that the service interval for these plugs will now be every 30,000 miles, instead of the 100,000+ that NGK Platinum or Iridium will last.

Re: Iridium plugs?

i stick to ik20 denso iridium every 30k miles because it is easier on the electrical system (draws less power to make the same spark). dont expect hp increases, but i did see a difference in the available voltage when running them compared to copper. every bit helps
