Custom exhaust?!?

I've always wanted to replace the exhaust on my car for something better sounding. A buddy of mine at work had a great suggestion. Take it to a muffler shop and have them replace from the cat back with 2" pipe and a Magnaflow muffler. He said this should sound amazing and only cost at the most $200 to have it installed. Would this work? He said someone at where we work did the same thing to his Mitsubishi Evo, just with a different brand muffler, and it sounds amazing. It makes sense in theory I guess.. If you buy a cat-back exhaust system you are getting that muffler and some piping no? That is essentially what I want to do just not with the brand name piping and without the rediculous price. Anyone think this will work and sound good? I just don't want it to sound like crap..

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

Will you be running a cat or a resonator? Or just straight back to the muffler? Go with a 2 1/2".

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

I will be leaving the cat. Only altering from the cat-back. And why 2.5"?

Better floww. If you can get it for that cheap jump on it. But I thought it wwas at least $100 for the muffler.

I meant $200 to have the shop install it. I haven't looked at mufflers yet. What do you recommend?

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

Are you thinking about a canister or an actual muffler? I'd run a resonator, if you were using a canister. It may be a little raspy in the higher RPMs.

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

Don't get 2.5", unless you plan on turbo'ing it. 2" or 2.25" is plenty big enough.

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

I guess an actual muffler? I'm not quite sure exactly on the difference. And I probably will go with 2" piping. It won't be turboed so no need for it.

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

i had my local exhaust shop run me 2.5" pip from cat back with a one chamber muffler and a 4 inch stainless double wall tip, it sounded real good <3000 rpms..
so i got iffy and ordered a $99.95 with free shipping 3 INCH catback off of ebay.. it sounds real deep REALLY good sounding actually, and no loss of torque or anything, feels better to me....
and 100 for the sound i got? idgaf if its from ebay or if it is crappy stainless
TOTALLY WORTH IT .

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

If I were to pick up another muffler it would be this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Magnaflow-14...#ht_5251wt_754

That's what I have on my RSX and I love it. Actually here's a vid of it on my RSX.

And yeah. Just stick to a 2 or 2.25" system. My bad.

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

What Artificial said ^

Unless you plan on a turbo build, there is absolutely no need for a 2.5" exhaust. I have a 300hp turbo B16 and I only have a 2.36" exhaust all the way through. I use the Apexi' WS2 Catback. Sounds awesome.

Re: Custom exhaust?!?

I went to the muffler shop, bought a normal magnaflow muffler, and had a 2 1/4 pipe put on, for 250$ alltogether, and it sounds better than any other car out there below 3500 rpms on my 05 DX coupe. its a low deep throaty sound rather than that raspy rice shooting gunshot. Believe me its worth it and its an orgasm everytime you even move the gas.
