Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

why not just build an intake to come up out of the hood and put a crap load of stickers on the piping. im sure that would kick up your hp at least 100. and get you pulled over alot more. >.<

but seriously i have a K&N FIPK the name is stupid cuz not much makes it a fuel injected performance kit. I noticed it sounds like a supercharger spooling up. but not in a good way more anoying i would say. ive been looking for the weapon intake but i cant seem to find it. does anyone have a link for me?

ya it does. foam vs cotton gauze vs synthetic paper all have very different properties and using the wrong cleaner and oil will destroy the filter.

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

So CAI or short ram intake?

Average power gain from stock?
Power gain after getting headers, and exhaust system, or some other decent mods?

How bout a short cold air intake?! XD !!!

I like this post: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/1...st-mod-no.html.

What is Weapon R (new to the civic forums, and I saw a couple threads about intakes, and people say they have the weapon R already), is it like the Weapon X?

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

I have heard varying things when it comes to short ram intakes. Some say the pipe is short so it results in better intake pressure (BS) and others say that a short ram intake is basically for sound only. I can see where that would be true seeing as how it sucks up hot air from the engine bay. What are your thoughts in the matter TRIZ?

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

its only a few hp difference. the short pipe will not significantly affect incoming air temp. and since the filter is generally located away from the engine, usually hot air wont be a problem with car moving.

^^ People will ask and then read the answer.. why not read the answer to the same question that someone else asked? To find it all they have to do is search. And to search, one needs motivation. Without motivation they wont learn. No spoon feeding around here.

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

I never did a test or anything but I'm going to have to speculate that it wont do any good... air gets pulled through there so fast it doesnt really make a difference. If the pipe was longer and weaved all around the engine bay with no ventilation then it would be an issue, but its not.... not until someone can perform dyno tests in the same conditions on the same dyno, which nobody ever will.

Follow up intake question

I got my intake used off eBay. It's a K&N Typhoon. Filter looks pretty beat up the outer plastic area looks like it got spraypainted and they hit some of the filter. You think it is worth investing in a another filter? I know Gearbox is anti K&N air filter and is pro AEM, what do you think?

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

It makes little difference what your engine specs are. Short ram for lots of noise and hot air, Cold Air for better performance and less risk of drowning your engine, and multipart (where the intake goes down into your engine bay close to the ground for best performance but biggest chance to drown it)

I'd prob pick up a CAI because your bay will be getting pretty hot with the turbo. If you plan on running a different intake manifold or intercooler then you will prob have to go the custom route to make it fit. I'm not to famil with your engine but there may be some aftermarket turbo support out there for your boosted D series.

Google it bud. I'm sure there is a debate on some forum. Maybe they make one of those carbon fiber whale ***** intakes at password jdm for it. They use the Venturi effect to speed up air flow.

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

I'm working with an '08 civic, so looking for CAI's it seems like the choices are pretty much limited to Fujita, K&N as well as some Velocity and AFE models. I know it's been hammered upon over and over and over, but is there really any advantage of one of these makes over another? Seems like K&N is the other favorite aside from AEM and Weapon.

Thanks for the post Triz. Really helped out a n00b such as myself

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

Quick question I bought an Injen Short RAM Intake and it comes with a 12" 8 mm vacuum hose. But the problem is the supplied vacuum hose is too big for than the stock vacuum hose. I am worried that if I connect the supplied vacuum hose, something will leak and cause bigger problems. Is it OK to replace my stock vacuum hose with it and just tighten the metal locks ( i dunno what it called, the thingie that locks those hoses )? Damn I just asked you a newbie question. Sorry about that I just need some answers. Thanks, tho.

Re: The ultimate Intake FAQ – Intake questions and answers here!!!

^ First off how much different is it? As long as it wont crease or fold when you tighten it down it should be fine. If it does, then you need to use a different hose. If you can use your stock on, use it. If you have to use the aftermarket one so that it fits on the intake, and the other end is way too big, try seeing if the stock one can fit inside the end thats too big, and snip it off. Get what I'm saying? Kind of a like a bushing/liner so that it mates up correctly.

zeusx99- Theres lots of companies that make intakes, I'm sure they make them for the 08 version. Off the top I think of AEM, fujita, weapon R and ARC to begin with. As for "Velocity and AFE models" I never heard of them. They sound like cheap knock offs. Brand doesnt have anything to do with performance- its how its built and the science behind it. Sure you can get an ebay inake thats bent to fit in your bay, but an AEM or ARC intake fits and has been proven to perform better then stock. From that, just look around and do your research. Whatever you do, end up with a AEM dryflow filter on your intake. Hands down thats all I'll ever run.
