AEM SRI... the way to go?

I have a 2002 auto ex coupe, with an aftmkt header and magnaflow exhaust. I've heard from a couple of people that SRI's are the way to go in terms of HP and performance gains with the Civic I own (tho I know they'll be minimal). I mainly just want to get the most out of my exhaust, while getting that sweet air intake sound . What's the best way to go? I've heard AEM more than any other brand in terms of quality and performance. Opinions???

you should PM gearbox. He's tried every single brand of intake. I think he stated the K & N intake was the best.

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

AEM is good IMO .. I've had it for 3 years now and it was my first mod. I clean the filter every year w/ the dryflow cleaning solution and its great I like the sound too, at high RPM it screams, and when the car shuts off it goes PSHHHHH haha. THe bracket is holding strong too

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

if u want what little HP a intake will give you, then a SRI is not the way to go. Go with a Cold Air Intake. both intakes will sound amazing, so sound isnt a problem.

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

thanks bud, yeahh SRI.. with CAI you also need to think of hydrolock if you're driving through a flooded road too. having a SRI saved my *** a few times, because the filter on most CAI's is very low in the engine bay

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

really!
SRI or CAI with such minimal HP gains are unoticeable, so go either way.
with that being said, id stay away from AEM myself as they are usually the 1st ones to have a product tossed on the shelf for the consumer to purchase without any real R&D put into that product.

lol

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

I like AEM, I've seen/been in/driven in cars that have the AEM SRI and Cold air. It has a good sound, and I think the quality is pretty good. HOWEVER, I had their V2 intake, and it was sorely dissapointing... that mounting tab broke under stress, and it didn't sound like I really wanted it to... I think I'm going to get an Injen intake next...not sure.

haha riiigggghhttt..
yeah i guess CAI is better than SRI because the air is colder=more dense (like Nitrous...kinda). but the downside would be hydrolock. i guess...

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

I put an AEM SRI on my 02 ex about a month ago and it sounds the same as stock to me under all throttle positions. Am I on crack? This intake is the only thing that is aftermarket on my car.

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

at one time period i had only a AEM V2 intake. everything else stock (stock exhaust, headers...etc) and there was a noticable deeper engine sound....especially when i left it in the same gear and floored it (i have a manual)

Re: AEM SRI... the way to go?

yeah you should have a noticeable louder sound especially when you up past 3500rpms. Since the reasonator is gone, theres nothing to muffle the sound.
