Car keeps Jumpin out of gear

Hey i'm havin a problem right now with my car jumping out of gear. I'll be drivin just normally and the shifter will suddenly jump out of gear and i have to re shift it and its becoming a pain in the a$$. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix it or what the problem is. THe only thing i do notice is that it is realy cold here and the gears are sometimes really hard to get into. Like sometimes u really have to force it in there to shift.

How old is the car? Could be a clutch or throw out bearing needing to be replaced. My 87 Accord did that before I replaced the clutch and throw out bearing. You might also think about checking the fluid just in case it is something easy.

ok well its an 01 and has 150 000km on it. Im the second owner so i dont know if the clutch needs to be replaced. It never did it until it was cold and it only does it early in the morning or just when i head home. After a while it stops.

at 150k kms, you probably do have to change the clutch assuming the previous owner didn't.
There's a test. Switch on the car, put the car into fifth, accelerate a little and let go of the clutch. If the clutch is good, your car should stall no matter how much gas you give. If it doesn't stall and keeps running the clutch is slipping.
As for the notchy feeling in the morning, i get that too and i'm from ontario as well. Its the weather. The synchros in the tranny don't function properly during extreme cold but after 5-10 after running the car, it starts shifting fine.

Ya well my dad was drivin it today and today it was 6* outside which beats the -15 it was earlier and it only did it once this morning. And i took it out for a drive tonite and it wasnt feeling as notchy as it has so im thinkin it was just as a result of the cold. I'm not sure if the teeth on my synchros are bad is there any way to test? Also how much is it to fix it?

Go to this site and you will find the TSB on your problem. I just put my car in the shop for the same problem today.
EBSCOHost Research Databases:

http://search.ebscohost.com/

This is a wonderful site with tons of excellent info, everything from repair procedures to recalls and TSBs. It's all free, and legal for personal, non-commercial use only.
You need to log in with the following information:

Username: lib
Password: access
Once you log in, go to the Auto Repair Reference Center and pick your car. The navigate to the section on Recalls and Service Bullitins. The TSB you want is in the Manual Transmission Section and is called "MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFTS STIFF OR POPS OUT OF GEAR".

Hope this helps

If your lucky, the bushings are corroded where the cables meet the trans housing.

ok this is good info. It didnt do it to me all day today so im thinkin it was just cuz it was cold out and it get notchy when its cold and i prolly didnt have the gear in as far as it should be. Im just gonna leave it for now plus i'll call honda cuz i'm tight with the guys there. They may be settin me up with a rear disc brake swap very reasonable.

i have the same problem. i know its not the clutch because i replaced it with a exedy and act flywheel. 3rd is the only gear that does this. and it seems to happen when decelerating or slowly accelerating. its a PITA! i dont plan on fixing it though because i want to trade in the car

Im saying this as of experience, in your transmission, your shift assembly, you have 3 little ***** that keeps your shifter in gear. most of the times that is your problem and its alot cheaper to fix compaired to fixing synchros. now im not saying thats what it is but its a possibility.

I've got the same problem, mines a 96 ex with 223k. It's started doing that a little while back. I live in minnesota and it does seem to happen more often inthe cold. Luckly for me whatever that problem, the new engine and tranny should clean it up. IF you don't think let me know
