Header and Noise
Header and Noise
I live in CA so I decided to leave my Cat on. I read somewhere that a header would increase the noise an aftermarket exhaust makes. Is this because the header some people use replaces the cat? If I leave the cat there and get a short header will the exhaust still be louder?
i had a DX and i got my custom exhaust 2.5" snd DC headers..that **** was LOUD. i had to put the silencer on the muffler..and yet it was still loud...it wasnt bad..but lets just say those saturday nights when you come home at 4 am youll be waking up everyone in the neighborhood..
i am in canada too ,but i want to get a DC race header which has no cat and an exhaust. is it a good choice? will it become too much louder???
Do you have LX/DX or EX? EX keeps stock cat LX/DX replaces cat.
why ex keeps stock cat??? cause i have a ex....

In LX/DX the cat is built into the header, so if you replace it with an aftermarket you'll be losing your catalytic converter. On an ex the header is underneath the car after the header and before the resonator; so if you replace the header with a 4-1 style you keep you cat. If you buy a 4-2-1 header style you'll be losing your cat. I hope I explained this right. I have a megan 4-1 header so I kept my cat; I live in Jersey and I need to pass smog. It makes your car louder but really only when you''re at WOT. You can't really tell in daily normal driving.

Removing a cat will always increase noise. A cat acts like a silencer to a degree. Sound levels can be controlled through silencers and resonators on your exhaust system. PM if you have anymore Q's
