Replaced the AEM air filter today
Replaced the AEM air filter today
alright so my old aem filter was COMPLETELY black so i decided to get a new one today. stopped at Autozone to check out their collection of air filters and i found this HUGE airfilter on the clearance table for $10. i decided that it couldn't hurt the car, and it had a 100K mile warranty, so i got it.
the filter was actually made for 3-4 inch intakes, but after alil bit of my modifications, i made it fit my 2 3/4 tube (i think it's 2.75, maybe 2.5).

see if you can see the spacers in this pic, they're inbetween the clamp and tube

yea, majinB told me that too, but i mean $10 for a filter. plus, this filter came with a filter cleaner too. as a matter of fact, imma go clean my old filter and see how clean i can get it.
EDIT:

those are the connectors you use to attach the CAI tube to the SRI tube. i bought some in different sizes, thus filling the gap inbetween the air filter and SRI tube. i got them from autozone as well.
well it depends what filter you have. if you have AEM, they're supposed to last a really long time (considering you clean it from time to time, which the previous owner of my car didn't do). if you bought some crappy unknown company's filter then a year is too much and it should be replaced.
i felt and heard an amazing improvement after i replaced my filter.

ahaha, yea i was mad when i messed it up. i was turning my CAI to a SRI out of fear of hydrolocking when it happenned. i was using an american wrench instead of a metric one, so i couldn't take a stupid bolt off and that pissed me off. maybe you'll remember when you click on the link below.

yea, i threw it against the concrete a couple times, tried to straighten it out as best i could but i knew i was going to get a new one so i didn't bother making it perfect.

, Nice new filter, I like the top of it
ahaha yea it looks like i rolled my old filter in mud and took a dump on the inside and tried to get rid of the **** by pissing it out of the filter. yea the new one looks nice though.
damn thats one banged up filter...did it happen to see any rain or liquid? im sure driving in water with an heated engine bay can do that to your CAI but what do i know.
last time i checked autozone for a air fitler cone style, the paper filter was rock solid hard compared to the AEM. but you needed a new filter anyways and just went with what you had availble around town. any changes from the autozone filter you notice?

yea i was hoping to get a smaller filter that would fit my setup but i couldn't find one so i had the old noggin help me with the modifications necessary. i'm very happy with new filter, performance is much more noticable, and the sound has changed a bit, but not by much.

ahah yea it's not a V2 filter. the filter does have an opening at the top, look at the 2nd pic.
