INVIDIA Cat Back Exhaust System
Hey guys, I have a question about legality for exhaust systems. A few weeks ago I was pulled over for modified exhaust. I had a Tsudo Cat Back system with 2.5" piping from the Cat Back and a 4.0" or 4.5"exlet tip. Now I am pretty sure that this is not a legal system so I am looking in to a system that would be legal. Does anyone know if the INVIDIA Cat Back Systems are legal? Can I use the silencer and pass an inspection from a state referee?

CVC 27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor
vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted
by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance
with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits
established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with
Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an
exhaust system so modified.
(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor
vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less
than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or
less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers
Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle
exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to,
nonoriginal exhaust equipment.
-
If your Exhaust is A catback and still has Cat Convertor, then you wouldn't have to worry about emission, but Has to be under 95DB.
No Idea about Invidia's legal issues in CA.
Proabbly havn't got CARB legal tested yet.

hey man thats great thanks. i think thats the violation number on my ticket too lol. so technically if you have a silencer on they cant technically pull you over cause most silencer's will not go above 95DB correct? anyways I have my system back to stock and hate it. Its alot quiter on the freeway but is no fun at all. I will be throwin my tsudo system back on for the mean time i mean its just alot of wrench time back and forth.

well from what this says any exhaust thats loud is tecnically illegal, now if you are talking about C.A.R.B exempt thats different. BTW what does that mean if you have Intake or Exhaust that is C.A.R.B. exempt, because they are still just as noisy as any other exhaust. anyone know what C.A.R.B. exempt means?
