gauges for turbo and their ranges?
i was wondering what range and type of gauges you guys have for turbo cars. I was gonna get oil pressure for sure cause my oil light doesn't work. Also wanted water temp. But what are the ranges of these gauges for our car? should i get a boost gauge or is it just a waste? any more important gauge? I'm prolly gonna go with VDO vision series cause they look exactly how I want and are cheap.

perfect thanks! i'm just saying for a small turbo with max of 4psi doesn't really seem like there's any point. would you recommend any other vital gauges?

Well I'm no turbo whiz, but I do know how to flog this car.
The first thing that will overheat is the oil.
If you're drilling the oil pan, get a bung for a sensor welded in and install an oil temp sensor in the pan.
Water stays pretty stable. A turbo might heat it up a little more, 4 PSI, I doubt enough to cause problems. I can run at the track all day and not break 207.
Oil pressure shouldn't really change. Thing is if it does change, the turbo is gonna feel it.
EGT is good for monitoring turbo health, as is a wideband O2.
You could make the car look like a space ship.... but if I was picking 3
Boost
Oil Temp
Water temp
Get it tuned.
Some people will say oil pressure is more important, truth is though, the stock oil pressure switch will pick up a total loss of pressure. If you feel worried about it, use 4.

cool. i only picked oil pressure cause the oil light on the cluster doesn't work. but i guess oil temp is important too. and water temp to see when the car really warms up. but i guess oil psi is one of those things where if something does go wrong, the car is messed up already.

well here's a tip about the water temp thing in the cluster... it reads the same from 125 all the way to about 210. Its an idiot gauge. Don't trust it.
If you got dough... warning gauges are the ****
Greddy makes some, Defi does, I think HKS also does. If nothing else, oil temp + warning. Saved my motor once already. That was about the time i figured out there's not enough oil capacity in the car to go hard. If you're never gonna go hard for long periods, its not necessary. The highway won't cause problems.

for boost applications I've seen alot of people go with oil pressure, boost, and A/F gauge. Thats what Im gonna use when I get my turbo set up. I've tried the oil temp. guage and personally next time around I would prefer to tap into my oil pan a little as possible so I wouldn't deal with it again. Don't et me wrong it never gave me any problems as far as leakin but I just wouldn't feel like dealing with it. But do whatever you want man it's your choice.

okay is a boost gauge just for show? cause it seems kinda silly to me just to see how much psi if most gauges go upto 30psi and i only have 4psi. i don't wanna be a ricer now.

No, you will need to have a boost gauge see how much boost you are running. How are you gonna know you are running 4psi without a gauge ?
BTW........you say that you are going to only run 4psi........nobody does that. In order to run 4psi, the wastegate must be set up for that. If the spring in the wastegate is set for 6psi.......you will not be able to run any less than that.

okay i am very confused. i'm trying to order from www.egauges.com and they are asking me to pick senders, adapters, and wire kits. there are 5 different kinds and i'm not sure which to get.
okay so i will need boost, oil temp, and water temp.
and i'm guessing that the boost doesn't always stay the same then?

Yes, a wideband is a MUST have item.
Ya know gearbox, Your vafc-2 can be used as a boost guage, convert your Pressure signal into 0 PSI instead of KPA.
