Underdrive pulleys

Thinking of ordering AEM's Tru-Power pulleys, and just wanted to get what you guys think. Is it worth it to spend 150 bucks on a bigger set of pulleys? HOw hard are they to put on??? I know you have to take out the right front inner fender liner and all that but again will all the work be worth it? If you think i should spend that 150 bucks else where give me your opinion.

I dont know if its "worth it",...but since i just helped my brother put his on yesterday,...i can tell you the biggest issue we had was getting the bolt off of the alternator pulley....took a 24mm socket, a vise-grip clamp thing, and three people an hour to get it off....man was it a bitch, ... but i can ask brother later today if he thinks theyre "worth it"

not worth it. wont do much for the car. and i hear the new alt. pulley will kill your alt. if you get this then i would just put the power steering pulley on.

yep ... it doesn't do much. especially if it doesn't include a better crank pulley.

gearbox had/has the pulley set.

Yeah that was my line of reasoning, that if you dont get a better crank pulley with the set, whats the point. Yeah, that 160 bucks is going torward something else, Any suggestions??? Springs, strut bar, or to start a Coilovers fund???

maybe 1hp. I had both on, then alternator broke so I only have the PS pulley on. It looks nice, thats about it. Aem really sucks for parts most of the time. I've tried 4 of their products and so far the cam gear isthe only quality part they made (5 bolt not their old 3 bolt design which was also junk).

Civic_RedLine will become famous soon enough
I had those pulleys on for 40k miles before my alternator broke. I had 40k on the speedo then this was on of my first mods since I got it for like 50 bucks then I had to replace the alternator at 80k miles. This pulley didnt damaged anything. Alternators lasts usually about 80k miles.
Might I add I had in dash dvd with two subs and two amps running until I sold them.
However, I suggest your first mods be i/h/e first then these or run these if your running f/i I gaurantee it will help with f/i
Im planning on using the unorthodox ones because aem doesnt make crank pulley.

Hmm... $150 is not worth it...... I had them and never had a problem but I was running factory stereo. Perhaps 1HP, but I thought it helped a bit down low in the powerband.... usually, underdrive pullies are not something people would/should get as a early mod.... maybe if you plan to squeeze out that last bit of power when there is nothing else left to do.

alternators don't go bad that fast. They should last the life of the car or at least 10 years. Crank pulley? have fun.

I put mine on allmost one year ago and now i'm starting to have problem's with my alternator. My headlight are dimming all the time when driving ect, never had the problem befor the pulley's. I gotta remove them and go back to stock, then get my alternator checked out. I say ther not woth the money or the install time. I read some where on here that after time you alternator will go bad and you'll have to replace it. I'm sorry i got them.

my mechanic says the power steering pulley is safe due to how our system is designed (on other cars it might cause problems). I just took off the alt pulley and kept ps.

hmm...if you decide to keep the alt. pulley on, wouldnt the sun MR hyper voltage system help keep everything running smoothly?

no. its only a capacitor for times when you exceed the current draw from the battery. the alt pulley causes the alternator to stay on all the time because it won't make enough power otherwise. this causes it to burn out much faster than usual.

I just ordered the Ultra SS pulley set from Unorthodox racing. Crank, PS,and Alt. pulleys. It seems good and they give you the number for the belt you will need. To install it all only will cost me $60

Ok, I have them on my car, bought them for 75 dollars, theres a gain for sure, especially when you have your a/c on; car is more responsive. I recommend them.
