Reduces wheelhop I believe, but don't quote me on that. It looks like it would since it basically acts as a damper to the engine, thus equaling less vibrations and the such.
open your hood and look at your engine, have a friend get in the car. now place close attention to the engines movement while he does these things.
turn car on
put in gear (drive and reverse)
put in neutral and rev it quickly then let off
start to roll back with clutch half way out and rpm low (on 5spd)
now youll notice the engine really bounces around in there, well the engines movement is a loss of power, if you hold the engine still that power will all be sent to the tranny. hence they make this damper to greatly reduce the movement of the engine, if you made it solid youd have driveability issues. if you got this and either new aftermarket mounts or just poly inserts you would notice a better launch and less shaking under the hood. for less money you can also buy a damper seperate and probably buy just the brackets from these people, or have them custom fabbed
and it doesnt seem like it would interfere with your abs, compare some pics and decide though

here you go.
up top i circled the aluminum bracket that will mount onto your strut tower, from there you see it bolts onto the damper circled in the middle under some hoses. the other end bolts to another bracket which mounted onto the engine.

the fact that the bracket is so high up on the engine is good too, it gives more advantage to the damper through leverage and whatnot. (although on some cars they are mounted higher and may even use 2 dampers this probably wouldnt be nescessary on any d17)

If you're willing to spend $300 and want to reduce wheel hop why not just change out your engine mounts, that'll be more effective anyways and contary to popular belief, won't make your car shake like hell.
Yeah, I guess there isn't as much wheel hop on a 7th gen, at least not a stock one because there just isnt much in the way of torque off the line.
Not to imply that my Mazda 3 is a torque beast, but the engine mounts on that thing are so mushy the axle tramping and wheel hop from an aggressive start are irritating as hell.

these things really help on dc5s; ive driven one with the damper - every shift is firm and there is no rocking of the engine. im looking to get that taken care of with it, rather than replace my sloppy, crappy 01 trans with an 05...just not for 340 bucks quite yet. like i said, NRG should make a knock off soon, they run about 80 shipped.

i would twist those little mounting brackets into pretzels.
wtf is up with their little 1/8" aluminum mounts? Those would hardly hold up with the stock motor torqing, let alone a boosted/built d17 on slicks.
Looks like something else i will need to build. I like their actual dampner, but those brackets suck ***.

they do nothing for hp. they only help with power transfer to the wheels during a launch or while shifting.
Think of it this way....
you know how you get upgraded performance shocks so you can get a better launch at the track? Well this is a shock for your motor to help reduce wheel hop. It keeps your motor from twisting and hitting the limitations of the stock motor mounts.
