Can Short Ram Rob Power?
Can Short Ram Rob Power?
Hey guys - pretty new here just have a quick question. I've searched around but haven't found a specific answer.
I live in San Antonio where it's really hot most of the time. I was going to go with a CAI but I would need a bypass valve becuase it floods here all the time and $250 with the valve is still a lot for a piece of aluminum.
So I was thinking short ram, just for the sound and mpg increase, if no hp/torque gains.
My question is this: can the short ram get so hot that it would begin to make the engine work harder, sucking in tons of really hot air? I've heard only one story of someone losing torque, but I want to be sure. The civic is slow as hell as it is.
Also, is it normal to feel the car "pull back" or "slump" when I turn on the A/C?

Thanks!

mm... generally with most intakes, you dont really lose, it's more like shift the power up the powerband. I honestly feel it's kind of a waste if it's done to an AT (no offense to the AT ppl)
and yes, it's normal for any car to have a decrease in power when the AC is on b/c the AC is being operated partly by the engine

get the typhoon short ram intake from K&N. Gives good low end power for daily driving. Only place I lost power was from 3500-4000 rpms.
i have an automatic and i felt a huge difference when i got my cold air. Make sure u have a different exhaust or you might only get 1hp plus. Take it out when it is cool at night and you will notice a hugr difference. I also have a jet performance mudule that will add 15 plus horsepower. If you want it i got it for sale

yes, I have intake/header pnp, felt a difference but I'm hoping for more when the exhaust goes on tomorrow. Here is my dyno before and after for the typhoon on my AUTO civic ex. There's great torque just not alot of hp.
also if u want a fast car get rid of the cat. Have it gutted and get the resognator removed. Or just get a custom exhaust on there with at least 2.75 size piping and u should add at least 15 hp for that

my exhaust has NO resonator thats being installed
i need cat to pass emissions... oh and I'm puttin on a cam gear advanced 2 degrees when they do the exhaust. then back to the dyno.

I think that honda designed the airbox to give vel, to the intake air and with CAI or Short one we are taking some of that vel of the air.
My question is that with generic/ebay/ (generaly) we see gains in the mid-range with short ram air????
Thanks
I have a Manual EX 02

bomz intake? prolly no gain. pnp costs around $700 just for the work. then you gotta have someone install it plus head bolts, gaskets, fluids, etc. Should be well over $1k total. Cold air for auto? injen makes one but it sucks (terrible fitment).
