flywheel and crank pulley
flywheel and crank pulley
Hi guys, i am comtemplating changing into aftermarket crank pulley and customised lightened flywheel.
what does a flywheel do and how will it improve my ride?
are there any side effect after changing a flywheel?
same goes for crank pulley.

flywheel gets lightened from original weight, reducing rotating mass and thus lessening the drivetrain loss. CRANK PULLEYS ARE BAD!!!! the flywheel will help get motor to a high rev faster than stock flywheel. crank pulley will kill your car. if you don't get the flywheel balanced (unlikely if the shop knows anything) it will break. if its too light it can also bust.
dont switch out your stock crank pulley with any after market crank pulley. its bad. you will have problems with your car in the future. leave the crank pulley a lone. go with AEM tru power pulleys instead.

ya most people who have a lightened flywheel say its good. Just get a known brand. It won't get going as fast from a stop, but you'll get faster revs once the car is moving. Has to do with inertia.
DONT PANIC

if you lighten the flywheel too much, it will result in very bad launches when you have tires/suspension that actually give you traction.
My buddy with a GTS celica has a very light flywheel (7 lbs i believe), and on Drag radials, he has to leave at almost 9000 RPM, and he still boggs pretty bad.
Now with the setup im running, i am utilizing the stock flywheel and crank pulley, but i am still lessening the rotating mass in a different place.
My rods are 17% lighter than stock, and my pistons are a bit lighter than stock (not much, still need to weigh them). I plan on running some AEM pulleys to lessen the parasitic drag on the crank (i love PS and AC). But i should still have enough rotating mass to balance my launches.

careful with the alternator pulley. a good mechanic here says that the alternator won't make as much power as before and will work non stop to charge the battery, especially if accessories are being used. Eventually the alt will just burn out like mine did cause ours are really small. The ELD won't shut off the alt as long as its needed to recharge the battery. So if you're using up all its power (which won't be as much as with the stock pulley), it won't shut off.
Power steering pulley is fine due to the nature of our ps system. I really don't think the pullies helped anyway, but I'm running the ps only just for show. That and there's no difference in ps quality anyway so might as well.
