u can do wut I did, just get a no-name CAI and cut it in the middle, add ur AEM bypass, add an extension to right beside the battery, then add the rest of the piping & put ur air filter on. that'l cost u about 200$ including the AEM bypass valve.

on second thought, keep the sri if it rains in your area.

CAI = 250
bypass valve = $40?

spending that much isnt worth it just for "looks" and "better" performance. if you lived in like CA where it rarely floods/rain, cai would benefical. but in an area where it rains most of the season, stick with sri.

ya that sponge thing is the bypass and only works when filter is under water completely. Otherwise water gets sucked right into the engine. And the sponge part degrades after a year or two. Its junk. Cold air intake locates the filter about a foot from the ground where it can get very dirty and suck in water when it rains. But its "supposed" to work by suction. Someone tested it with a vacuum and it only worked when filter was completely submerged.

I'm not against CAI's its just I'd rather be safe than sorry is all...I'm in Florida btw so IMO and for those who know WEST 50 down near Clark road and 429 on-ramp that area is deadly for lowered cars during rainy and hurricane season next time we have a mad downpour I'll throw some pics of the "Dips"

You know I think its just a gamble, even with a bypass valve. I never knew they only work if the filter is totally submerged. It is a great idea and invention, but too bad it still sucks up a little water.
I guess the real question is do you feel lucky, well do ya.....punk!

i bought a CAI off ebay last year(no name cost like $50). i have had no problems in the rain and think about it would you really drive in 2ft deep water to begin with. you really wont see a difference in power just a quicker response when your on the highway. 1-4hp gain from a cai or sri is normal for a 4cylinder.

I think you should stick with an SRI. It kind of depends on what your going for with you car, do you want race-level performance of just enough to give you a tickle? I think that's where a lot of people mess up on, you have to choose what you want to get out of your car. I know I'm not gonna womp on anyone at a drag strip anytime soon but I like knowing I do have more performance when I'm doing daily driving.

slightly off topic but I have an AEM SRI, one of my MANY intakes I've gone through (don't ask) but I was wondering why Injen uses that flat adapter piece and AEM doesn't? IYO, would an Injen SRI out perform (by what little HP we actually get out of intakes) an AEM SRI? Just wondering because I have an invader CF hood and my SRI occasionally rubs up against it, I know that could be prevented if I get the Injen flat version but if the gains are the same as an AEM SRI then I'll deal with the rubbing, its not hood threatening. Thanks!

k&n typhoon sri beats em all. noticable power (and dyno proven). I gained 10 ft/lbs torque at 2800rpm on my auto vic. Perfect fit and doesn't rub.

Gearbox,
Are you saying that before you had the K&N Typhoon, but with a VAFC-II, Kamikaze Ceramic Header, DH Racing Port and Polish Head, AEM Power Steering Pulley you made 10 ft lbs LESS than the 100 hp/92ft-lbs you now have in your sig?

If so, I think your car has some serious issues!

the issue is its an auto. but yea starting out only had around 90whp, 80tq. My sig is most current with intake, but I only added 2wtq. It only makes the 10 in lower rpms. It will all be sorted out soon. Finally got exhaust and cam gear and then tune everything correctly.

yeah, I would think that with the tuning and cam gear, you should be able to get all the mods to work with each other rather than cancelling each other out like it looks like they are doing now. Good luck with it.

I think the problem is the K&N Typhoon and that Kamakazi Header. Slap an AEM intake and and a DC Sports header on it and all will be right.

Of course, I'm biased, I work for AEM

DelSolid, you work for AEM...well maybe you can answer my question as to why AEM and Injen have different looking SRI's. I've seen all the generic looking SRI's and they all seem to follow AEM's design where as Injen uses that flat gasket thing (I'm sorry I forgot what that's called!). What's the difference, if there is any? BTW I have the AEM SRI/DC shorty header set up. Just wondering what's up with the two designs.

I dont know what the Injen looks like. Can you post a pic of the flat gasket thing? I work in Performance Electronics (the EMS) but I will look into it when I go back in on Monday.

alright since the subjuect is up, it might be a lil late, but which would sound better? the SRI or the CAI? i've got a AEM SRI and i was just wondering if i got a CAI if it would increase the noise of the exhaust or even just the sound inside the car.

AEM has dyno sheets beside the intakes on thier site. Injen has some out there somewhere but over all it just helps very little on the d17 unless you go with the AEM v2 which is dual chambered like the CAI and SRI to combine it in one.
