Pulleys?

AEM Tru-Power pulleys increase horsepower by decreasing the parasitic effects that factory accessory pulleys have on a vehicle’s engine.

WTF?

Could somebody describe these "parasitic effects?"

Also, does anyone have aftermarket pulleys on his/her car? Did they make a difference?

if u decide to put subwoffers don't put it... well it does because the pulley will be lighter so it will move faster so the rpm probably will go up faster...

what they do is increase the size and decrese the weight as compared to aftermarket pulleys. this means the belt actually moves farther per revolution without using as much force. this frees up h/p (about 2) but effects the charging of your alternator negatively. not good if you have a large system (over 300 watts), otherwise they are pretty nice. Look cool to. i have them on my car and they supply a quicker throtle response and more hp and torque through the entire range. once again it feels like about 2-3 hp depending on gear but thats not dyno'd. only thing i've noticed is that my power steering is a little tighter which i actually like.

i was thinking about pullies too but i don't want smaller pullies just lighter ones. the problem is i don't think any one makes plain alum. pullies. maybe it wouldn't be hard to have some made, afterall they are just little wheels. a local cnc shop could punch them out in no time, but it would probably be too expensive if you were just having them made for yourself.

they aren't smaller, they are larger. actually the alternator pulley is almost the same size, its the power steering pulley thats noticably larger. aem makes them in red, blue, and silver, the silver is just a dull aluminum gray anyways. i'll take a pic a little later if you want.

I evened things out.. used an Overdrive pulley on my Alternator..underdrive pulley for my power steering.. alternator spins faster..power steering slower which makes it a little stiffer and more sporty feelin .

Mind you I also have a 160amp alternator lol.

Cheers

Cam Gear is a whole different thing.. But basically it's just adjustable to easier set your valve timing which you really don't want to play with unles you know what you're doing..
