AEM Pulleys, a joke, hassle or the best?
I got some AEM pulleys and I don't know exactly what went wrong but I installed them correctly. Apparently I didn't check up too much on them first. After installation they don't work the alternator as hard, therefore the alternator didn't push alot of juice. Every stop light I had to rev my engine to keep my JL Audio Sound System going or my car would die. A few times I had to be boosted off. I guess if I didn't have a great sound system I would be good to go. But I've heard from another guy his car runs fine, but hes using a only Pioneer CD deck with no amps or big speakers. Unlike me and my 12s and 2 high powered amps. So just note this before you spend $140...

Ive done some research on this and I think you might need a capacitor (Doubt thats spelled right). It takes energy from you alternator and stores it so you that your amp can power your subwoofers. This way the alternator wont drain the battery. I think you should be able to go to any audio store and they'll know what your asking for.
Hope that helps.

Hey Read in the I.C.E section on how much my electrical system can take.. also.. from AmpmanAudio You can get an Ohio generator 180 amp alternator for $569 with a 2 year warranty..But I'd reccomend putting the stock pulleys back on as well.. AEM pulleys and others free up 2 hp not even worth the gain on our cars..also your alt spins slower and makes it harder to develop amperage.

I think AZ2K1Civic has it right, Before I got my capasitator(SP) whenever i came to a stop at night with my systems on, whenever the bass hit my lights would dim. I got a Cap and that solved it.
IMO (may not make sense 'cause i'm still a newbie with this ish) .. since you are having problems with your alternator putting out efficient juice to run the stuff in you ride .. maybe you should put your alternator pulley back on, leaving it stock .. and leave the aem power steering pulley on ........ ?.
EDIT: i have the aem pulleys and bought a voltmeter to monitor my electrical system (i'm running i.c.e. in my ride .. but nothing compared to your's) ..... at idle .. it may drop down to 12v .. when the original voltage at idle is at around 13.5-14v ... this may be bad ..... ?.

Yeah man dont go for all these new alternators or capacitors... they probabaly wont solve your problem... get them checked over... or just put the stock ones on... cause that aint supposed to happen with new pullys....

AEM says if you have a system pushing 300 watts or more you will probably run into problems with their pulleys. I am going to get some soon. I may wait and save up for the unorthodox. They may only give a few hp but it all adds up.
