The MOST noobie question ever!!
Haha, I feel like a total turd for even asking, but then again, it's been a long day in the office and I need to know, just to sleep tonight.
Again, I drive a 2004 Civic EX Sedan, the one with the 1.7L 4-banger. It's a manual transmission, if that matters.
I was wondering, when I check out specs on what some parts do for some engines and what parts go to which engine, since my engine is a 1.7L, does that mean I have a B17? Someone enlighten me, everyone else make fun of me. Thanks.

Yet? I can't remember which issue of Super Street or Honda Tuning I saw it in, but I read it was being developed. I think I read they have them all the way up to 2003, which obviously doesn't include a 2004.

first off guys the "B" series motors are more poupularly the DOHC motors, your probably looking for parts and seeing a bunch of stuff for the b18, or b16, which are the motors that were put into the last 90's civic si, and in some of the acura integras and watnot. the reason why your seeing them is because they are like the best motors to build, hense, lots of parts. the family of motors that the regular civic EX's have in them are the "D" series motor, which = SOHC. (DOHC = dual over head cam....SOHC = single over head cam) so yes, the second post is correct, in all civics excluding the Si, from 01-05..there is a D17. in the generation before ours, civic had the D16. the 1.7 doesnt show up in the engine code, but nice assumption. so the moral of the story is this:B16 = DOHC, and i believe that is the gsr motor.
B18 = DOHC, and i believe came in most civic Si's in late 90's
D16 = SOHC, came in the 6th gen non-SI civics
D17 = SOHC, new motor for 7th gen civics.
K20 = DOHC, new Si motors, and acura RSX motors
.....and about the B17, never heard of it
so again, im not very up on the older motors, but this is what i think ive heard...lol

hint: when your looking for engine parts for your car, you can search under parts for a 01, 02, 03, 04, the engine hasent changed. when you are looking for exterior parts, ex. body kits.....you need to get something for the 2004 model. only thing that has changed is the body.
type in D17 when looking for engine parts.

Thanks for the help. Just kinda thought white rims would be a shot of different, but then again black rims aren't quite played out, although I have seen several people who tried to pull off the blacked out look by taking off their wheel covers. Ha...
Anybody heard anything about these new Traklites from Motegi?

I don't mean to question your um, knowledge, but how positive are you that they haven't changed and that I'm okay buying parts made for an 03 and older? Just wondering.

im not a master at the older motors, but i know the 7thgen motor, and the reason i know you can put parts for say a 01 civic on a 03 civic is cause ive done it along with 90% of the people on this site. i got my car in 03 and starting putting things on it as soon as i got it, when i searched for "2003 civic cold air intake",. i got nothing. but "2001 civic cold air intake" got madd hits. lets see, i had a 01 intake on my car, i have a turbo kit that came off a 2002 civic, i have AEM pulleys that are listed for a 2001.
believe me on this one,
D17 motor: (2001-2005, same)
body: (2001 - 2003, same) (2004 - 2005, same)
interior: (2001-2002, same) (2003 -2005, same)

Hey, thanks again for the help. I didn't mean to sound like a *****. Basically I didn't want to get my hopes up if you didn't know what you were talking about. You get the idea. Thanks again. I donated.
i have an 04 black coupe and i have white 17's and i think it looks awesome. i wouldnt trade them for any other rims. they look awesome because they just set the car off and make it look really clean and nice. i dont like black rims because they look like steelies when there moving unless you have a polished lip which looks good. just my opinion
