Yeah I understand where you are coming from opto but you have to understand what you will be getting e.g. Fully built head, rods, etc not to mention the you will also have the whole engine itself to use....... Come on opto just a set of rods from crower is approximately $600.. In my opinion this is more of a deal for the turbo guys... So that they can run more boost...
As a matter of fact I really don't have to sell the motor but it is only because I don't have the money right now to buy all the other stuff to finish my K20 swap, that is why I decided to sell it. 
But I could keep it and have two engines 1.) A fully built D17
2.) A K20A
and use which ever one I like more...

Maybe a couple weeks to a month. A reground stock cam will not hold up to engine stress for very long before falling apart. You need a complete FORGED replacement like stock is to begin with. Grinding the metal weakens it considerably.
