Its not $50. Buy 2 rolls of the 1.5" Wide tape, you need 20-30 feet. Its worth it in hot weather if you do the drive hard, then sit deal (like at the strip or an autocross). Other than that, it doesn't do enough to notice.

OK, its lace up... which means there's a gap down the side of it. In otherwords, hot air gets in. The adhesive backed wrap bonds to the intake pipe, leaving no hot air jacket, all other thermal resistance specs intact. That, and the fact that the lace up thing isn't long enough make it utterly useless. It doesn't matter how much it can withstand, it matters how much it can reflect. The tape gets double wrapped because you 1/2 lap it... making its thermal resistance twice as much as the single layer "heat shield"

fyi: i've seen intake stuff @ autozone and advance auto parts kinda stores.. im sure they have similar kinda stuff, i've seen heat shields for the filters too im pretty sure similar to wut K&N comes with... only its generic, cheaper, and might not be exactally the same..
