To all LX coupe owners

I bought an catback system for my 04, but went to put it on a noticed that the cat is up by the headers. Either I got the wrong one, or I need more parts. SOme one help, cause I can either get one of those things off ebay thats like a downpipe extension for the headers or get mine stock pip cut and add a flange to put my aftermarket on. ANyone tell me what you did and the cost.

uhh actually on the lx and dx models, the cat is located within the header....that thing that is under the rear passenger seat is the resonator....

to answer the question, you probably just got the cat back for an ex and not the lx/dx.....there is an extension pipe that you can buy, but i'd have to look for it again....it's like 130 shipped.....give me a day and i'll post it back up for you....

When I had my 01 LX I had bought a EX exhaust and had the same problem. I had to buy a downpipe and it connected up fine.

yup get that, it's worth the money if you get it, considering for you to fit an ex exhuast you would have to buy the ex header, downpipe, midpipe, and rear section, plus get the front sway bar off an ex so that it will clear the cat, because the ex has the cat by the front axel and not in the header and then you have to extend your o2 sensor lines so that they will reach the cat....it's just easier to deal with if you get the tanabe....just a simple bolt on....

or just get a custom pipe made if you want to save $ should be max $50. If you go this route you can have a hi flow cat welded in later should you decide to by a header later. This way you willl not need to extend you o2 sensors or swap to the ex sway bar. Sure the Tanabe extension will be fancy and all but it is a waste of $ and you probally won't want to cut it to weld in a cat if you decide to buy a header.

I noticed the cat on my header too. (I have an LX) Everyone's talking about getting a downpipe extention... Does that require welding? IF so, I guess it's to the muffler place for me.

The underbody of the 04 is designed different than the previous years. so the area where the pipes have to lay and bend are not the same.

Where did you hear this? The 01-04 are exactly the same. Buy the Tanabe extension and you're done.

I have had techs at shops up here tell me they are different now, some of the spacing to where the shifter is located if you were to look under the car. Maybe its the brand of exhaust i have bought. What brands has anyone else used.

Simplisity and cost efectiveness just go to an exhaust shop and get an extension made. Make sure they use stainless steel. I wouldn't convert to an EX header and cat it is a waste of money unless you pick up the parts free or dirt cheap (remember you will also need to buy longer o2 sensors to do this). Use a stock sized flange at the top and 2.25" flange at the bottom of the extension. This option is best if you plan to buy an aftermarket header (Kamikaze).

I would NOT go the cheap way and have the muffler shop do it... i had the exact same problem on my 97 dx and i got this pipe made at the muffler shop... the next summer i decided to get headers (and a high flow cat) and the cheap pipe the muffler shop made had rusted onto both my exhaust mani and my 500 dollar 5zigen fireball exhaust. your best off getting that tanabe extension or going with say the hp racing race header with cat for 250
