Convinced me not to buy...

I have a 04 EX coupe and was all set to buy my first mods. Then I started reading the posts in this forum. I was planning on purchasing an intake, header, and cat back system ,but from what it sounds like, you don't really get any performance gains from these things. It appears as though most of you don't feel gains from these items, or perhaps they just don't provide the gains they advertise? Whats your insight into this? Anybody feel really confident they make a difference?
If your curious, this is what I was thinking about getting:
1) AEM V2 intake (short, no hydrolock)
2) still looking for a quiet catback with good flow and slightly more aggresive sound than stock (EVO2, Thermal)?
3) DC Sports Stainless Header (crap?)

you'll be spending anywhere from $500 to $1000.

Performance gain?
maybe 5-10 whp in the higher rpms at the cost of the low end.

hmm

Thats what I figured. So why does everyone buy this stuff? Is it all about the looks and sound? Personally I can't justify a $500 exhaust for little to no performance gain. I would be happy with a 20hp increase. Guess I should have bought a different car. Such a sweet looking car with such little gusto. It's so sad.

Reasons they bought it?
1. They didn't know
2. They like the sound.
3. They think it makes a big difference
4. They didn't know.

An exhaust system would be useful if you had a turbo set-up that would compliment it.

my intake sounds good, gained very little next to nothing. If i had a change, i would not bolt on anything except a turbo for perfomance.

sad

So basically this car has very little potential without dropping 3 grand on a turbo? Don't get me wrong, I love my civic, its fun to drive and everything but its engine output is weak, even when compared to other cars in its class. How I wish it weren't so...

intake/header/exhaust will do somethin to your car. just because it is a little civic dont mean you cant get no power gains out of those 3 mods. how is that my friend got those 3 mods on his 7th gen civic and he can out run my car about 2-3 car lenghts?

i bought my exhaust from truehonda.com for 320 (now 350) the hp racing jspec catback exhaust sytem. its not loud whatsoever ive had it for 3 weeks no signs of getting louder i wanted something louder but oh well i like it a lot. its quieter than a greddy evo2 and sounds deep 2.5 piping. i reccomend it toeveryone who wants a quiet catback.

^^unless you have an lx/dx/hx... then get the kamikaze header + o2 sim... the header/cat combo on these trims are super restrictive.. but he has an ex, so yes, the stock header is sufficient...

1k would probably be better spent on the suspension... It won't make your car quicker on the straights, but you'll be surprised at what fun you could have... You don't even have to spend more than 1k...

advice

I appreciate the suggestions for parts, but.... will it give me a performance gain? Refined performance is number one in my book. No doubt these add ons are cool, but I'm not going to spend money for no gains. So, keeping this in mind, do you still recommend these items?

kumusta pare... nakita ko ng sig mo, may tagalog pa lolz...

and i second that motion... driving through turns is way more fun than going in a straight line... suspension = good investment

if you don't want to shell out 3k for a turbo, you can always go the poormans route and get a nitrous kit... pretty much the best bang mod for your buck...

suspension > IHE
I'd only get exhaust for the sound... suspension is the best mod imo, besides tires..

suspension

I realize the most bang for the buck would definately come from suspension upgrades, but I don't drive crazy enough to take advantage of them. I think the stock suspension is adequate for relatively "spirited" driving. I'm really more of an engine kind of guy.

nitrous

Nitrous? Adding nitrous with a completely stock setup wouldn't do much besides drastically reduce the life of your engine, would it?

Well, it depends on the shot... you don't want to go buck wild there. Which is what a lot of small fries do hence the engine blowing up.

If I had money right now, I'd do tire mods and suspension mods.

50 shot is fine for a stock engine... just don't spray at low rpm's or in 1st or 5th gear and your engine will be fine... there's LOTS of threads on nitrous on this site... like whats safe and what is not... some run 75 shot fine but i'd recommend 50 shot tops..

I'm running a 75 shot and have been for a while ... also, I spent all that money on I/H/E knowing it in itself wouldn't do much, but it will help with all future power mods ...

Hey im the newb around here (check my past posts), i didnt know a thing about anything, and i just put my intake on a few days ago. If you read a couple of my other posts, ive said one thing:
as far as low-end well i dont see any difference; but everyone says ooo itll kill your low-end power, well without a dyno, hell if i can tell. As far as high end, the throttle is more responsive, i know on the straights it feels like the car kicks up a little bit faster, but this does kill the mpg a tad bit more than usual.
So maybe its just me but like i said, i dont see much of a difference on the low-end but its not like its dragging **** either, but i do like the high end gain; its very smooth from 60-100,doesnt strain as much as it used too.

I like the Rs*R ex-mag exhaust, just like the other ones, wont do much, but its not too loud, sounds good, there should be a sound clip on here somewhere, but dezod motorsports carries it.

well....
I'm pretty confident the mods do something, is just that people here wants 20hp from a single mod, and that's impossible.

Anyways, about the mods you've listed, for the header, don't buy DC, that's expensive crap!! You could buy OBX-R or even better Kamikaze header, I don't have one yet, but that's the one I'll buy soon with a megan racing downpipe/cat eliminator/resonator.

Good Luck!
