Searching For The Best Cai
Searching For The Best Cai
I am looking for the best possible intake as far as gains and sound are concerned for my 2003 civic ex. From what ive heard it seems like AEM is the best way to go but ive seen different types like the standard cold air and the V2. Id just like to know what u guys think and if you have had any bad experiences with a certain brand of intake. thanks
AEM is NOT the way to go, if you need the evidence, just check out their web page.
www.aempower.com
They have dyno charts of your car, and it have more powerloss than gains.
I believe that the Injen WILL make a better job because
1. The filter is not in the engine bay, but bejind the bumper.
2. The Injen RD Cold Air pipe diameter looks wider than the AEM Cold Air's
3. The Injen have less bents, so the air flows a lot better.
AEM did great with 6th Gen Civics, but too bad for the 7th Gen
Hope it helps a little, but searh around, it have been talked A LOT OF TIMES.
Good Luck!

I have a RD Injen Cold air intake in my LX....I think i got a better horse power gain than my cousins civic and he has the V2....it seems to me the piping for the V2 is to big to do anything....But that is all my own opinion...

Get the K&N fipk short ram. It makes 5whp peak, which is better thn the others. With cold air you're gonna risk getting water in the engine, not to mention a really dirty filter.
with cold air you will get around 12-18 WHP....and the Injen RD cold air intake is a TWO piece...so you can make it short ram if its raining season....and it takes like 5min to make it short ram...short ram intakes...are only 5whp because its taking in all that warm air from your engine..

Well you could make it a short ram, but there is no point. You are going to have to take the bumper off, remove the lower pipe, and filter, and it is a pain in the ***. No it doesnt take 5 min. And no a short ram wont give you 5 HP with warm engine air. I have no idea where you get your info man, but it is all wrong. Besides Injen already has a short ram intake. This way would be stupid.

1. Damn... you have to read a little more. Cold Air intakes will never give 12WHP to our cars, don't know why, but the avg is from 2-3hp for EX, and 3-5HP (AVG) on DX/LX engines.
2. Injen RD is two piece, but.. have you seen how it fit our engine?? Theres no enough room to install the filter to make it a short ram (unless you want to use a pantyhose with a rubber as a filter
)3. It will take almost half an hour to make it short ram, the one that's easier to remove the lower part is the AEM, not the Injen RD.
4. It will take that warm air from the engine, that's true, but you will not get the 5whp by doing that.
In my opinion, you should search for some dyno sheets.
are they suppose to give me the dyno sheets???..they have my name on file....I will go there this weekend...but you gotta tell me how to post them up...and i will see if i can scan them at work....

That's because they actually did engineering this time and made the pipe smaller as it feeds to the TB. You gonna try the S&B filter on it? I'm getting my fipk next week so I'll be able to order one finally.
I want to try it, but I just don't know if its worth spending 30 more bux for an intake....i've already spent 200 on the V2...the only thing I want to get the filter for is just to protect my engine poor car only has 7k miles on it as of yestorday so I don't want to get the engine dirty as heck...how long do you think it'll take before the engine gets a bit dirty becuz of the filter....I just want to see how it is with you before I actually order it

Yeah I'll let you know if there's a difference once I get it. All I know about it is from other people telling me. Someone said it's gonna be LOUD compared to the regular ones since it's open in the front.
I don't want it to be super loud thats another problem....I know intake is not a big deal but my dad would probably get a little pissed knowing what I did...cuz he'z seen so many ricers around here so he thinks im gonna end up being like them and im gonna get 500 tickets
