Well I'm goin to lower my car bout 2 inches with BG coilovers next month and plan on gettin a CAI shortly after that. The bypass valve will determine whether or not i get an Injen or an AEM intake because I don't want to retro fit the Injen intake. So if I decide to get a bypass valve I'll get the AEM so it will fit right. But still, half of the people say no bypass valve and the other say bypass valve. I'm thinking of not gettin a bypass valve becuase alot of people say they mess up or deteriorate after a few years and I plan on having mine a while. So if i'm careful I think I can manage with the Injen intake with my car lowered 2 inches right? and drive really slow in heavy rain?

OK so we all know it works when the filter is submerged. It creates a vacuum & causes the bypass to open. BUT how often are you gonna be driving & have the filter completly submerged? The truth is more often than not it is water splashing the filter, and because there is not water all around there is not enough vacuum created to open the bypass. So your filter gets splashed you suck in water vapor & still get hydrolock. So if you wanna buy it for "piece of mind" go ahead BUT dont expect that just because you have it you WILL NOT get hydrolocked. You still have to be sensible & not drive too much in heavy rain & avoid large puddles. Just like someone else said the article is very one sided for it & does not represent what normaly happens in the real world.

i think the bypass valve pretty much works, but with it installed, it defeats the purpose of an intake... cuz it sets up a barrier for the MASSIVE, CRAZY, amount of air that will not be coming into ur engine, correct me im wrong!

TRUTH: It does NOT work except when the entire filter is under water. By that time, you're walking home anyways.

if u have the bypass valve and ur engine hydrolocks is there anyway u can sue AEM for its product not serving its purpose

you gotta prove that the by-pass-valve is on your car at the time of the incident, which would probably be very hard. 'cause they can always say you put it on after your car has been hydrolocked.

Ya but who's gonna waste an engine for that? I've seen a video already, but they quickly submerge the whole filter in an aquarium before anything happens.

There is a lot of diffrence between a lot of water & a little. Think of it like this, you drill a 1/8" hole in the hose of a vacuum cleaner (thats your bypass). With that hole it will still have enough pressure to suck up small particles (small droplets & water vapor) through the main end (filter) and there is relativly no suction through the small hole (bypass). Now take you hand and cover the end of the hose completly (submerging the filter completly) and you have a whole lot of suction through the small hole (bypass). So with out a WHOLE LOT of outside pressure on the entire filter you will not create enough vaccum to open the bypass.

lowering your car 2in won't make a diff when you're talking about a 2 foot puddle. I don't plan on flooding my interior or my engine with my cai, so i'm never gonna drive a puddle that deep.
