Engine question, about my 01 honda civic

hey guys,

im a newbee, I wanna try to soop my honda up some and give it alittle more pep.

but anyways, I wanna know what the big box next to your air intake is, it looks like a air intake but its not.

I went to advance auto parts and talked to some dude that looked like he didnt know what he was talking about, he told me it was a muffler silence device or something.

errr, so later on that week, I went to go install a new factory air intake unit in my car, and I accidently didnt titghten the big box (silencer) to my air intake tight enough. It fell off going down the road. Well the only thing that happend was my car sounded alittle louder, and I felt alittle loss in horsepower.

Now I am planning on getting a cold air intake n stuff for my car in about 2 weeks.

I noticed in some of you guys photos of your engines, you got the box (silencer) tookin out, and just a cold air intake system in.

Is it okay for me to just TOTALLY disconnect that box from my car and pitch it? or do I need to do some other stuff?

please help guys,

thanks,

Brandon

Yeah, the whole intake comes out if you add an aftermarket one. The stock airbox has the filter, and the other box is the resonator that makes the air quiet. I've found the stock setup to be the most efficient.

Can you take out the resonator while you still have the stock airbox? Yes you can do it. Some people like that better, like Gearbox.
