Big Exhaust Problem, please help
hey guys,
i just put my greddy evo 2 on and i got some problems, i was testing my car on the highway and when i'm going up or down hills something form the underbody is hittting very bad. it's causeing the shifter box to vibrate and it sounds like crap. i looked under my car and no pipe's have any scratches, and i'm tugging and pulling but i can't get it to do that unless i'm driving?????? i've been looking at this for over 2 hours now
it has to be something with the cat-back system cause my car has never done that before. Any idea what it could be????? because it pisses me off i just spent $500 for it and the reason i got this was because my old exhaust was rattling too but it was from the back.
thanks for the help.

i would say to take the shields off, but thats up to you. i have a greddy too, and i didn't take off my shields. but when it rains, it sounds like my exhaust is blowing out where the high flo cat and catback are meeting..
Its the cat swinging back-and-forth sideways....i don't know of any 100% effective way of fixing it...but the best way would probably be to buy new STIFFER (or firmer i'm not sure) rubber hangers for your cat....this would stop the cat from swinging back and forth...good luck man.
r u forreal....hmm....did you try to swing it back and forth with your hands? cause i know the vibration that you're feeling...and when i went under my car it was the cat...if not then i don't know what the problem could be....
It seems I'm not the only one having this problem. As for me I hear vibration at the passenger rear side of the car when I installed my EVO 2. I'm gonna go to the shop that installed my system and figure out a solution to this. I'll let you guys know what's up.
Ok, this is making me mad, i just got back from driving about 2 hours, and no sound what so ever
so maybe the system just needed to break itself in or maybe it will do it again, i took it to the sop and told them what was happening and the replaced my rubber mount for the hook, it drop it down about 1/8 of an inch, after that i havent heard it again, maybe its fixed, i'll keep you updated and get some pics up soon
i'm gonna have a beer for all this headace

its prolly the midpipe flang that is hitting on the undercarage of the car. go to a muffler shop they can trim it for you "bluericeburner" was having the same problem with his tsudo catback. he had it trimmed were it was hitting and it went away. there really is nothing you can do until you take it to a shop because, you cant moddify it unless you have a torch of bender.
i took it there and nothing was hitting when they looked at it, no scrapes on the pipes, no desnts on anything on the underbody, no clue to what is causing it, i'm about to go out again and drive it hard so we'll see what happens

theres a good chance that the pipes is just rubbing the underbody of the car.....it happened when i custom piped a magnaflow....when it rains and when i gas it from a stop, you would hear an awful clicking sound coming from the passenger side.....just take it to the muffler shop and they'll take care of it
I need TP for my bunghole

It is called thermal shock
It happens when it rains / snows.
It is when a hot exhaust and alot of cold water hit the pipe.
The metal expands under heat and contracts when cold.
Think about when your warm body hits a very cold pool and you body tenses up and shakes.
But after a while your fine. Same principle with the exhaust.

All Greddy Evos do it. Both of mine did it when I had it(2001 and 2003). It happens everytime water gets on the pipe. You are going to have to live with it or get another exhaust. I just got the Apex and it doesn't do it anymore.
It seems I was only able to partly eliminate it by hitting the under body with a hammer by the 2nd bend of the exhaust. The annoying rattle doesn't happen until I really floor the car or when I'm on the mountain pass (for some reason it happens there). This is definitely a frustrating matter.
ok guys after 5 days now, no more noise, i think it's just a break n period thing, i'm happy cause that noise was pissing me off, i'm going on a road trip this weekend so i'll post anything up here if it starts doing that again.

its exactly what punkingcivic said. the exhaust expands and retracts farther than it would normally cooling down and causes that shield thing on the cat to hit the bottom of your car. you can see it ifyou take the whole thing off. its still most likely gonna do it unless you go get the thing trimmed up. a lot of ppl with 01 vics had the same problem with their stock exhaust

umm yeah dude the reason there was no more sound is because it was raining. And to everyone that thinks it is just an evo problem it is every aftermarket exhaust.
Cocky guys kick ass!

i just put my Greddy on, with no cat.. i've had no problems of any kind rubbing/dragging.. when you first put it on, did you let it run and get hot, then tighten everything back up? if not, try that.. other than that, i duno dude.

thanks a lot!
