Thinking of getting a K&N FIPK II intake...
Hello guys..I may be considering getting a K&N FIPK II intake for my car.but i'm totally not sure yet..but before i consider it, i've got some questions that need to be answered.. First of all I've got an automatic..with about 28,000 miles and I feel like the car is losing power..even tho I granny drive the car for most of the part... but i was wondering if I do get the FIPK..will I really notice differences in the acceleration and power of the car..? when I accelerate I usually rpm up to 3k....so my question is will I notice the difference even in that area....
Also..I was wondering about the noise level of these things..what kind of noises will I now be hearing if I get the FIPK...i'm the type of guy that doesn't like a lot of noise especially the noise of exhausts..I like quiet cars..the stock civic noise.is perfect.but if I do get the K&N Fipk..will the car be a lot noisier..and wat type of noises will it make..? i'd appreciate any input...I jus want to know if it's beneficial or not to get one or not...thanks....

ok, first off, the K&N FIPK 2 is the best intake for our cars (according to this site). if you do get the intake, you'll probably notice a slight gain in power, but if you're gonna granny drive your car anyways, then whats the point. you're gonna have to go higher in the RPMs to get some power outta a civic. if you floor your car with the intake on, you'll hear a nice growl and it'll go away when the RPMs drop down, then you wont hear it anymore. BUT, if you like quiet cars then i'd suggest you get the K&N drop in filter instead of the actual intake. however, even if you do have in intake on your car its not gonna be teribbly loud.
oh, if you feel that your car is sluggish, try doing a tune up on your car, that will probably help out more than an intake.

Installed the FIPK2 last Friday and I think it's worth it. I drive a 2002 EX sedan A/T with 28k miles on it. I was worried about noise myself and to my surprise you can't even tell it's there when you drive normally and when you get on it's not that loud. The wife is not to crazy about the Greddy EVO and when we went out I got on it and she never noticed it was there. When you get on the civic engine with no mods it's loud anyway.
When I installed the Greedy EVO I felt some lost in the low end. The trans. seems to want the higher gears sooner than later. Why? I have no idea. After the intake was installed there was no further lost of low end, which is a good thing, I guess.
As far as added HP you can notice a little at the higher RPM range (especially 65-90 mph). However, I really think the intake utilizes what little HP we have a lot better and smoother. In other words, when you accelerate it gets you to your AMAZING 127HP a little sooner and smoother than with out it.
Thats just an opinion, I could be wrong.

i just got the FIPK2 last weekend too! i switched from an aem sri to the fipk2 and definitely noticed a difference (although not the "pull you to the back of your seat" kind of power)...i felt more low end torque...and it seemed to go through the powerband smoother...get it..its well worth it...
oh and alphster! we have the same setup!! haha good stuff!

ive got one. ive had it for about 10k now. you can buy mine for cheap if you want, i still have the cleaner kit (hasnt even been opened). PM if ur interested
PS dont worry about noise, really- u cant even tell its there until u hit 4k rpm or more. even then, its a real low pitch sound anyway.. the only reason i like mine is cuz it makes a cool swish noise when you shut off the car. is that really worth what i paid? hence, id like to get rid of it.

I use to have the AEM cold air and the injen SRI....I bought the K&N about 3 months ago and it made diff. in torque from the low to mid range that I could actually feel. It's the best intake for our cars, period!!!

I've had mine for a while now.. It outperformed my AEM CAI.
You get better low end power and it is a low grumble sound.
Also since it is made out of a thick plastic the piping does not get nearly as hot
as AEM or other CAI types
Also you will never be worried about hydrolocking.
K& N FIPK II = best mod for our car for the money!

Because the filter is at the same level as the battery. So your entire car would have to be under water for the filter to suck in water.

ahhh, at that point we would be at just as much risk with our airbox anyway...got it. Thanks for your responses Gearbox rather than the "search man!" that I seem to be getting. It takes just as long to type that as it does type an answer to my question.

I wouldn't bother with the intake for your purposes. I pulled mine out and sold it because I wanted a quiet car again. The difference I noticed with mine - and with a Neuspeed catback exhaust - weren't very noticeable. The fact that you just spent money on your car and it now makes more noise makes you think it's faster, but it really isn't. In the end i'm now much happier having the stronger lower-end of the stock setup with a significantly quieter ride (Especially when getting on the highway)

OK, we're up to $1.05. I'll pitch in another $0.75. lol. I agree, on our cars even the best intake in the world would probably only net you a few hp and (possibly) cause you to lose torque in the low-end.

that is, if we are looking for a significant increase in power.....I'll work on looks but aside from that I don't think I'll even attempt to milk the little bit of performance I can get out of my d17......rather just throw in a k20 and then turbo that
.
. Beginning the review i had the same exact question...I am
thinkin of getting the FIpk II , but after reading I am now
60% against gettin it, and still wanting it 40%, a lotta $ for
very little and noise, or more quickness off the line @ the
stoplight...I get on it often , especially from the start where I live
I care about torque and quickness in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear in my 5
speed............

Look the only way to get ANY power gains that you could possibly feel would be to buy a N2O kit. PERIOD. that is at least for a decent amount of $$$. Personally i have an AEM CAI. 2 Reasons. 1 It looks sweet and 2 It sounds Awesome. Not particularly while the vehicle is on, but right when you shut it off it makes a sound like a jet turbine stopping. AWESOME is all i can say about that. But as far as performance gains, i ihave that, DC 4-1 header ( i know, dont harass me about the DC) and a Thermal R&D catback. Now i could swear that i feel a slight....slight power gain with all 3 of these mods, but at the same time i think i gain power every time i get an oil change too, so...LOL.
To each his own, but i'd suggest NOT gettting any CAI if your going for more power. its a waist. Save up and buy a 75 shot

If you only care about off the line power (torque), don't bother with any intake for your car. All of them rob power down low to pay for +3HP or so above 4500RPM or so.
It is a quality part, but the finish was flaking off the heatshield mounting brackets after one season in the salt up here. If you drive where salt is used often, this might concern you. Nothing you can see just by popping the hood though, the airbox hides the brackets.

Keep your box clean. The K&N went through 1 winter with me, and 1 winter with my friend that I sold it too. It looks brand new as soon as you wipe the dirt off.
It comes with a dyno sheet showing a 4.3hp gain, the highest of any intake.
