Just ordered a K&N FIPKII

I decided it was time to upgrade my intake from my AEM SRI to the FIPKII. I've read mainly nothing except good things about the intake. Is the install any harder than the AEM one? I know the hardest part was getting the stock airbox off, but I don't have to go through that again. Also, does anyone have it on an 03? For whatever reason it is only listed up to 02, but they are the same engine, so I can't see why it wouldn't fit. Thanks

just wondering, does an intake really matter in an auto? I was thinkin either injen sri, or k&n fipk II? Will either one matter? I herd nothing but good things about the k&n, but will its performance actually apply to me?

^ The engine on an AT sucks in air the same way the engine on an MT does.

evanl85, everything fit perfectly. The hardest part is getting the padding around the heatshield.

I guess the heat shield isn't wrapped at first then? Guess I'll see how that works when I get it.

i don't know about other intakes, but with the FIPK, i felt the performance as soon as i took my car out for a test drive. it picked up a lot quicker and no it wasn't just my imagination. even my mom noticed it right away and i didn't even tell her that i had installed it.

good choice evan!

I called K&N yesterday and learned that although their site only shows it fitting 01 and 02, the FIPK is in their computer for the 03 too.

I called K&N also, but they said it won't fit the 03, or it would be in the system. What gives? She doesn't know *why* it won't fit, just that it would be in the system if it did.

Does anyone have this installed on an 03? I know it *should* fit, but I want to know if anyone has actually done it.

Just got mine this afternoon and I'll do the install this weekend on my 03. I'll post the install details when I'm done.

On a side note, I was inspecting the plastic tube and in particular, the end that attaches to the throttle body. About 2 inches in there is a hole that has fiberglass insulation in it. Some of the fluffy stuff is sticking out into the tube itself.

I pulled some of it out but I'm concerned that my engine is going to suck some of this stuff into it's tummy.

The hole does not go all the way through but rather seems to be a fill spot or for the molding process. It's about the diameter of your pinkie fingernail.

Any else have this problem? Or is it a problem at all?

That seems odd, does it look "broken" inside? I don't have mine yet so I can't check, maybe some of the others who have it already know?

It doesn't look broken but it seems to be a fill spot where a layer of insulation is on the tube itself i.e., a built in heat shield sandwiched between the outside and inside walls of the tube.

It looks like the the fill hole was never covered up but it very clearly is a hole with fiberglass like stuff sticking out of it.

Vtec,

It's not that hole. This is is one that is another inch or so further inside the tube. It doesn't go all the way through the tube but rather only half way. Inside the hole is fiberglass and I can pull out quit a bit with some tweezers.

UPDATE:

I called K&N this morning and the service tech said that it was a defective part and that fiberglass isn't supposed to be part of the intake tube.

So far, I've been looking at the AEM V2 and the K&N FIPK II, but I was lead to believe that there is really no big difference. I personally wanted the K&N, but the price tag suggested I go with the AEM. What do you guys think?

By the way, I have an 03 EX. Thanks.
