KMS Manifold DynoTune Results....
Alright guys. Everything we feared came true. cwick187 posted this in another thread......
Just to give people an idea of what this means...MY car dynoed at 116.87 hp with just intake and exhaust. So he had his car tuned and it still didn't show any gains.

Well, I just dyno tuned my car with the KMS manifold, VAFC II and cam gear...I got 116.9 @ the wheels and 99torque...The KMS manifold is crap!!!! I mean, I gained my mid range back which is nice. But.... If you'll check my profile with all my mods, you'll see that I should be alot higher...Well, the guy that dynoed my car @ balanced performance, said that the design of the manifold was "****" and I should put my factory back on, because I should be higher in my #'s.

what thread was that in anyway? I can't find it
I was going to say... that all his mods he got 5 hp or so.. hopefully if he puts stock back on he gets more.
I still dont think that manifold does much on a stock car.. it may work a lot better for a FI setup.. although didn't the guy claim it'll do something after a tune? heh.
bummer. thats a lot of money.
n/m found the thread.

Yeah, it's true...I can post the sheet if you guys want...The guy that tuned my car is really well known in import racing and in tuning.. He told me that there was something missing in my mid range on the first pull and I told him that i noticed that i lost alot of power after installing the KMS manifold...He happened to know John from KMS and he told me that everything John develops ends up not working well....Ed (the guy that tuned my car) took me out back and showed me the black 7th gen that KMS built...He said that John seriously screwd up everything and that Ed was gonna have to rebuild it...I was planning on calling him tomorrow, but what good would it do???? I'm just going to put the stock manifold back on and see if I can get up to 130whp(that's what Ed told I should reach on the manifold switch) and retune my car...I'll have to say, the tuning really helped my midrange power that I lost after installing the KMS IM and the new VAFC II will let you set the vtec engagement output to come on when the stock vtec engagement input comes on...It pretty awesome!
Fly, do you still want to post my dyno sheet? At least I confirmed that the KMS manifold does not perform on a NA car like we hoped...I suggest if you have one, to call John at KMS and tell him about my tuning...Hell, send him my sheet if he gets bitchy about it...I'll let you guys know what happens after my next tuning.

Also, if any of you guys are thinking about getting the DH Racing manifold, I would wait until he can cough up some dyno #'s because his design looks no different than what my manifold from KMS looks like...The only thing that is different is the side mounted TB...We all need to be careful and learn from my bad expierence.
Thanks for posting Fly....As you can see, the first run before tuning shows a decline at around 75 and then jumps up 25Hp when the VAFC vtec output kicks in...That alone shows you that there is something that is not right...The blue lines represent the final tuning which took that dip and spike out and made a smooth/significant gain...My car feels alot better in mid range where I noticed the decrease in power after the KMS IM install...I'm pretty positive that the stock manifold will yield alot better gains...Any questions?

Damn! I like what tuning did to your powerband. It made that dramatic drop turn into a smooth upward incline. I really would not mind getting a tune done after I get some of my more costly mods done.

Dude, I'm not defending KMS at all - but my point it is CALL THEM! Granted all he could tell you to do is pound dirt, but if not he might just redesign your manifold. Sheit, if I spent that kind of money and the results turned out like crap I'd be screaming bloody murder.
Yes, he might not do jack. But you don't know until you try!
I'd be interested to know what he would have to say if he blew you off - and you told him that his reputation on 7th gen and other forums was at stake!

First off, when installing the VAFC II, the grade of octane does matter...Second, if you knew anyhing about our cars, we don't make enough power to where an exhaust is gonna make a increase in power....Please don't post if your not willing to offer advice or a justifiable comment.
I will call John tomorrow as soon as I get out of class (FINALS!!!
) I'll let you guys know what was said... Thread Starter

well your obviously going to see improvements with switching plastic to aluminum but but dh-racing makes a manifold and is making one with sf turbo they will have one for the turbo thats p&p, I am hesitant to buy the turbo right now and intake manifold, dh-racing promises 25 at the wheels with intake manifold and throttle body, so probably 35 hp+ in that range, because its not made of metal that heats up, also dh-racing is a quality company its that simple, only problem is the 450 price for manifold but I think its worth it. I ain't gonna buy one till they make one thats for sf turbo

so ....lets see my next performance mod will be hmmm throwing that freakin manifold in the trash.
or selling it cheap for the FI guys.
thanks cwick187 for the dyno and proof that the design is flawed.
I can't wait to hear what john has to say.
also what setting is your cam gear at??
