Not entirely true. The K&N has been said to have the best gains from people who have had both AEM and the K&N. Metal intakes are stupid. They might look better, but they heat up quicker. So as soon as your engine bay warms up, your intake has lost its purpose.

The K&N has both a heatshield and plastic piping. That means less heat gets in. That means more power gets out.

i can't argue w/ u there white... you're correct, but i just doubt that it will give significant gains no matter what intake you get... they may just feel a little more pull or torque... although, yeah if you're getting on, i hear the k & n is sick... although if you want to discuss intakes that have the best gains, try the new iceman that is totally plastic.... if you dont want looks but gains, get the iceman

That's a very good point that I have heard time and again. I was looking into purchasing an AEM V2 system for my 03 ex coupe, but I had a few questions about it that possibly some of you could answer.

1. AEM's claims that the V2 dissapates heat more effectively with an enhanced coating, should I believe this at all, and if it's true, is it an effective system?

2. I know that most serious trackday motorcycle riders cover their exhaust pipes with a heat dissapating wrap (I'm a bike enthusiast first and foremost) however I'm at a loss as to remembering the name of the process. Would this be an effective way to bleed heat off of the intake?

3. I noticed that all the comparison tests for the V2 on the AEM website were done with a DX engine (non-VTEC 1.6 litre). Does this mean they're trying to hide something about the effects of their product on the EX engine (VTEC 1.7 litre)?

4. Is it worth it buying an intake? Are the power gains even noticeable? Does it noticeably effect gas mileage, if so in which way?

5. Is it going to hurt my engine in the long run? I would like my civic to last forever.

As my car is brand new, I want to do things right. I'm just looking for a little extra go off the green light if you know what I mean. I love my Civic, it's a great car, but I just crave a little extra getup. Intake seemed like a cost effective solution. However I don't want to risk my brand new investment. Any sound advice would be highly appreciated, thanks.

answers to some of your questions.

3. the DX is a 1.7L engine too, just no VTEC. The gains are all the same pretty much on both engines.

4. High-end power gains are noticable, low-end torque losses are noticable too.

5. yes it's worth it. Put your hand over your mouth and inhale quickly. Now remove your hand and breathe in again. Notice how much easier it is? An intake does the same thing for your engine, makes it easier to breathe. Exhaust is the same way. A set of headers and an exhaust system make it easier for your car to exhale.

Oh yeah, and there is no real risk with warranty either. An intake will produce a little extra umph and should be your first mod. THe intake will not affect Honda's reliability either. It's the best thing for that little bit of extrta pep.

what about the weapon r intake? i know there's a lot of threads about it, but has anyone actually compared it to other intakes?

i don't know much about the weapon r, but personally i can't feel too much power gain, but i can feel a small loss low end... he is right about getting an intake, you should, and no matter if you get metal or plastic, metal will still work somewhat, just because its hot doesn't mean its not sucking in air more efficiently... i have an AEM SRI, regular v1, non v2, and its ok.... makes a great noise, but gains are lame... if i could do it again i'd get the injen RD CAI, i hear they're noticeable increases and its not as loud, you will get tired of an SRI noise after a while... or atleast i am! i dont know where to purchase the cold air extension for my SRI though, but i think you can get them somewhere... if anyone knows the link send it to me, i'd be very grateful! that is the plus about the AEM, it can go from an SRI to a CAI in about a minute, which helps if you have some rough areas with lots of rain... v2 is a great system but for what people are paying for it, def not worth it... get the K&N, if nothing else it looks cool, but the piping is smaller than on my AEM, i'd be suprised if the power gains are any different.... instead of getting a SRI, just got for a CAI, u'll be happy with it

GO WITH WEAPON R! those are the best short rams you can buy. and the sound is amazing. if you decide not to get one of those then get an injen sri or k&n sri.

NEXTexit - wow... that's quite a list there.

1. I have no idea. But if you're willing to shell out $200 to figure out the answer, be our guest. However, from what I've heard, the V2 isn't all it's hyped up to be. I've even heard it doesn't work as well as the original AEM CAI.

2. An exothermic wrap might work for motocycles, but it wouldn't be your best bet for trying to make you intake more efficient. What would work is an insulating wrap. There'a a member here who did that (Boilermaker1.)

3. I don't know how it works for the EXs. However, if you gain 5hp on the DX/LX, I'd assume that you'd gain 5hp on the EX. The total would just be different.

4. Yes, it's worth buying. It's not going to give you 15hp to the ground, but it'll give you a few (>5) to the ground, but it'll also sound awesome. Mileage isn't really effected by the intake per se, but I think I romp on it more since I got the intake, and that's obviously not good for mileage.
