Talking Backfire threw the cold air intake

3 or 4 weeks ago i ask why is my intake backfiring threw the intake. all peps said no.
then 1 other person said they hear theirs do it also. i was under the hood tues. and found that the cheap filter that came with the cold air had broke off(the heat craked the rubber and left me the top ring). so i got a new filter and looked at it, it is thicker than my old one. i been driving it now and i hear the air stop and starting like ever one said theirs did. no more backfire noise. i guess it had 2 do with the cheap filter being that it was so thin??

you were lucky that it didn't suck anything big in the engine thru the intake...

True true. My car backfired like that a time or two when I had just the resonator box taken off but now with the Injen SRI I haven't heard a single pop.

Pink flames are Honda's specialty, and also breakaway front bumpers

this is what posted last week...it describes what sound they are talking about:

I have had my K&N FIPK II for about 3 mths now (lx coupe 5 spd manual)...it runs great. However, it has made a noise about three times since i got it...the noise sounds like a back fire almost pretty loud (in the engine bay).....the first time it happened i was driving hard, the sound happens only when i am off the gas pedal. the 2nd and 3rd time it happened i was just crusin...but in all 3 cases it happened when i let off the gas, to change gear (up shift).

has this happened to anyone else? what could be causing it, and should i be worried? i really aprreciate your guys input. thanx

My friend's car backfires all the time, but it's not because of the intake. He's got a stock 2001 Camaro SS, but I believe it backfires because the last time when he changed the oil was 15000-18000 miles ago. So, I don't think it's normal.
