WA: Road Trip to Whistler B.C.?
WA: Road Trip to Whistler B.C.?
Hey folks,
I've been wanting to get back up to Whistler, B.C. From the Seattle area, it's about a 4.5 - 5 hour drive. Once you get to Whistler, you have a kick*ss village to hang out in, party, relax, etc. We could do a weekend trip (i.e. start Friday morning and come back on Sunday afternoon). I'm thinking around July or August so the weather will be nice up there.
There are a ton of hotel choices and with our stronger dollar, the prices are relatively cheap.
The road up there is great for testing out your car's handling prowess and suspension quality (for those of you with mod's). There are some incredible views that would make for excellent backdrops in a group pic.
Anyway, I'm going for sure, my friend with a new WRX will be going and just wanted to know if anyone else would like to join us.

This trip would be during the summer (July-August). You don't need to get any snowboard gear 'cause the only snowboarding up there at that time is on the glacier and it pretty much sucks. We can go up and hang out in the village, buy some goods from the various retailers up there, leisurely lunch/dinner, hit up the 'ol liquer store, hit the clubs, chill in the hotel, ...whatever, it don't matter! It's just a great opportunity to drive your car to a destination where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful resorts in North America and still walk away with money in your pocket.
It would be so cool to have a good-sized caravan of 7thGenner's rollin on the freeway up to Canada. There are numerous areas where the speed limit is 70mph and of course you can exceed that at your own discretion.
Now we just need some interest on the behalf of all these WA (hey, maybe even Oregon or Idaho folks) and we can make this a great little event!

Terry, I got at least 5 people from work who is willing to go on this trip. Confirmed... if we can get an exact date, we need to make arrangments ahead of time because VZ is really strict with absenses. A date is what we need to make arrangments so we don't get in trouble with taking the weekend off.
Guess I should check this forum more often...
Anyways, I'm thinkin' end of July(26th - 28th) or the beginning of August (2-4). Do either of these weekends work for anyone?
We'd leave early Friday morning (9-10am) and get up to Whistler around 4 or 5pm, have all of Saturday, and then come home on Sunday afternoon (leave around 1pm).

T, I would have to say August 2-4. I got 5 confirmed people from work who is down for the trip. I think they can bring 2 or 3 more. Plus, at Verizon, we get paid at the 15th and end of the month. So the 26-28 would be a little tight for some people... And we get paid a day before the weekend.
Chris,
I'm fine with the August weekend. I'll tentatively mark this down in my schedule unless more people become interested and need to change the dates. So, what type of vehicles are rollin' with ya? You said you have about 5+ people from work?

Yeah, it would be great to meet up with some folks from the Vancouver area on the way up to Whistler.
So, I guess I'll just mark my calendar for August 2-4. I will check on hotel rates this week.

Alright, so where do the Washington people meet at? Since we're probably going to take the 5 up, we should meet in Seattle, or Bellevue... maybe the Verizon Wireless parking lot... then take the 90 that connects to the 5.... but we have to exchange cell phone numbers in case we get separated...
sounds like a cool trip I know of a couple friends along with my self that have been wanting to get back up to that northen country for awhile. give up a time and a meet spot and im there.
Ahile you're at it, make it a nationwide trip. As one of the few people with 2k1's on this site who live in MT, count me in (95% sure) for the August weekend. Someone's gotta represent from MT! Plus I grew up in Vancouver, so it'll be cool to hook up and caravan with some other 2k1's. Heh heh ..
Just a warning, the cops in Vancouver & BC are, I'm told, getting very VERY picky about car mods. I've heard a few friends of mine who still live up there got pulled over just for having an aftemarket exhaust or Xenon headlights. With the recent abundance of deaths due to street racing (translation: stupid drivers) they've had to crack down. So just a warning. Anyways, let me/us know the details as they develop ..
Cheers!

Hey, where do we stand with the caravan? If it's still a go, I'm schedulin' myself off that weekend. Plus I'll need to know where to meet everyone in Seattle, or wherever.

blue, we're thinking of renting some Escalades for the trip. So if you're down, you can park your car with us and cruise up like ballas... The plan so far seems to be the VZW parking lot... nice and spacious plus it's adjacent to I-90 which can connect us with I-5N.
Oooh, Escalades would be nice, though I'll probably head up the pack with my 7thgen, just cause I might stay a little longer up there to visit family. Sounds like a lot of fun though. I'll see about getting it off work. Uhh .. the Verizon parking lot would be ... where? I've been to Seattle hundreds of times, but damned if I know where $h¡t is ..

Keep the post alive, anyway. . .
Newcomer to the site, live in Bothell (just north of Seattle to those of you from out of the area) and I think a trip like that would be great! Maybe in early September, even. Weather's still great up until about the end of Sept.

I'm definitely still interested in doing this trip but I've got a lot on my plate right now. September would probably be a good time. I'll post from time to time so this thread stays updated.

Going to the east coast for a vacation this September from the 9th to 25th. I'm planning to get some snowboard gear soon, so why not make this a winter Whistler snowboarding trip? What do you think Terry? I'm going to ask my crew if they're down, if they're not, I'll just rep Verizon by myself.
