Aftermarket Mess up
Aftermarket Mess up
I had put in an aftermarket stereo, only the headunit, a few months ago on a 95 civic dx for someone. Recently, I was riding in the car and kept hearing a speaker cutting in and out. The owner said it had been doing that for awhile since the new headunit was put in. Automatically, I thought it was some of the crimping must have been bad and didn't want it to happen on the other speakers so I decided to cut off all of the connectors and solder the connections.
I cut them all off, spent quite awhile soldering the connections, taped them all back up and made it look nice. Then, I went to plug in the headunit that was the same headunit that was working 2 days before this situation, and it would not come on. I decided that maybe the soldering wasn't effective and maybe I should have used flux to clean the wires and all of that.
I then cut off all of the soldered joints and respliced the wires back together with butt connectors and plugged it up. The headunit still does not come on. I checked all of the fuses under the steering wheel and none were blown. I figure none of the under the hood fuses would do anything so I didn't really check them all one by one. I also checked the fuse in the back of the headunit where the harness plugs in but it was not blown either.
The car is a 95 civic dx and the headunit is a pioneer dxt-2369ub.
My connections are as follow:
Original Wire - New Wire
Red w/Yellow stripe -Purple
Blue w/Yellow Stripe - Green
Yellow w/Red Stripe - Red
Brown w/ White stripe - Purple w/ Black stripe
Gray w/ White Stripe - Green w/ Black Stripe
Black - Black
White w/Blue Stripe - Yellow
Blue w/ Green Stripe - White
Reg w/ Green Stripe - Gray
Gray w/ Black Stripe - White w/ Black Stripe
Brown w/ Black Stripe - Gray w/ Black Stripe
There is a Red with black stripe that is not hooked up at all coming from the original wires that is not hooked up at all. I do not have a volt meter but will have one later this week. Any ideas on what the problem could be at all or a way to fix it in general?

You better check the underhood fuse box. The memory/back up fuse is in that one. Fuse 32, 7.5A

It did solve the problem. Thank you so much. I didn't know there was a "memory" fuse. It didn't make too much sense to me why everything electrical is pretty much on the fuse box under the steering wheel and that is under the hood. Oh well.
Thank you again for the help.

Re: Aftermarket Mess up
I was rushing and didn't disconnect the battery the first time and I think that is when it happened. The second time I did disconnect the battery and of course I disconnected the harness from the headunit before doing the work. Like I said, I was rushing and trying to figure it out and just didn't disconnect the battery the first time I was looking what the problem could be.
It did end up being that memory fuse under the hood. 7.5 fuse. Replaced it and hooked everything back up and it worked. Now I can stop driving with headphones in.
