car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
So i tried jumping my friends old chevy truck with my 1993 hatch and ever since i did that about a week ago, my car slowly seemed to be losing power. every time i started it up it just seemed like the battery was taking longer and longer to start the car until finally it just would not start. i was not home at the time and asked for a jump, still no luck. so i pop started it and no problems, i drove it home and parked it where it sits now. i trickle charged the battery and used the battery tester, and its fine. I still get power to the lights, radio, etc but the engine will not turn over. i replaced the positive side terminal because it was a bit corroded and still no luck. i dont know what to do next so i was hoping someone on here could offer some suggestions. please let me know, thanks

Re: car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
how old is your battery? jumping someone can drain it quite a bit and if you drove it like that in a lower charge, it may have made an old battery die faster. check the fluid levels too if you have fill ports.

it does not crank at all. the battery is 4yrs old and has a strong charge still after sitting a few days. as i said before i still have power to my lights, radio, and heater when the key is in the on position. im thinking maybe the starter now, but it happened really quick so maybe not. any other thoughts??

Re: car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
so when you try and turn the key, there is no sound at all? are the battery terminals tight? it sounds like a starter issue but maybe also a charging system problem. i would have the whole system checked if you can get the car started.

This isn't really my area of expertise but I would say check the starter, both fuse blocks, inside and outside the passenger compartment, and the cap and rotor. Check to see if the starter is receiving voltage?
Re: car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
The same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I was able to jump it by using two sets of jumper cables, one connecting two batteries and another connecting my distribution block to my negative terminal. I had my battery tested and the results said it was fine, but I used a friends battery and it started just fine. My only guess was that I shorted it and for some reason it was still giving a voltage reading. Anyway, I got a new battery and replaced the ground cable (it was shot after the short) and everything works fine now.
Hope this helps.

Re: car wont start (battery/electrical problems)
Had this happen about 1 month ago, called AAA and the tow truck came to get my car, but before that, the driver did some power tests, turns out the wire going from the + battery terminal to the fuse box was loose. So try checking your connections.
