Questions Wiring 1st amplifier
Questions Wiring 1st amplifier
Hi all --
sorry to be such a noob -- but I am stuck. I am installing an amp+subs in the trunk of my son's 95 civic lx --- have everything wired and addressed ( I think ) except for how to physically connect the 4gauge power cable to the battery.
The tiny little OEM battery clamp will probably not handle this big 4gauge wire.
I saw some aftermarket clamps but I don't understand how they are to be used -- am I expected to cut the starter and aux wires off the existing clamp and re-install them in one of these heftier aftermarket clamps? + my new 4 gauge power wire? Or is there an easier way that I am not seeing?
Any help appreciated.

Re: Questions Wiring 1st amplifier
well a ring terminal should fit the stock clamp, otherwise you can swap the whole thing for a new "fleet terminal" which is bigger and beefier.
Re: Questions Wiring 1st amplifier
A few options:
1. Go to Home Depot and pick up a ring terminal for 4 gauge wire, it'll slide right onto the battery post, don't worry about it.
2. Pick up a heavy duty terminal from Street Wires which clamps tot he wire via a hex key screw. This is sooooooo easy, I'm glad I have it for my setup. It's just a bigger ring terminal so it should still go on the battery.
3. Or do what I did which is what you suggested. Pick up a clamp for the battery post that has a lot of different places for wires to clamp into and cut your stock wires to go into there as well. I have my stock wiring, 4 gauge amplifier wiring and 10 gauge computer wiring going into different holes in the clamp. It was $20.
