My 1992 civic si is mostly stock. All the gauges work all the time except the speedometer. The speedometer works accurately but it only turns on after I've driven about 25-30 minutes, and then it will stay on as long as I drive and work completely accurately. I have not found any other way to get the speedometer to turn on other than just waiting. I replaced the VSS with a brand new part and the connections on the back of the speedometer don't look corroded at all.
