1979 1.2 Hondamatic Engine and Transmission

1979 1.2 Hondamatic Engine and Transmission
Rebuilt engine,
Put it back in, Tranny slipped in 1st and 2nd
Rebuilt transmission (new clutches AND found new hardware.. super lucky)
Put it back in, performs great in Reverse but slips in 1st and 2nd.
- Checked Transmission fluid
- Checked shifter cable
BAFFLED!!
Anyone have any suggestions on what to check next?
