Transmission Identification

Trying to identify my transmission, label up front is rubbed off. Transmission is on a B16A and I need too replace the spindle seal right now and an axle down the line here. Any Ideas, car is up on jacks right now, went too autozone too get a seal, SOL. Too order 1 for the second time I need to find out what transmission this is. Last order, wrong seal too small. Thnx.

Well I think I found your problem LOL

Try a Honda parts catalog http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Look up the car the trans should have originally come from, then go to 'MT transmission housing' or 'MT clutch housing'

the Honda catalog usually gives measurements for seals so you can compare along with a brand name.

Example: a random axle seal I just looked up is described as OIL SEAL (35X62X8) (ARAI)... If I needed to, I could go measure the seal I have and see if this should be a match.

This might take some time to research and get it right, but at least you have a good chance of getting it right this way.

Re: Transmission Identification

This is getting more difficult, not sure what vehicle the engine came from or the transmission. its Hydro clutch/ non lsd thats all we know. B16A serial number over 5504XXX.

Re: Transmission Identification

Yeeeaah, the Honda parts catalog doesn't allow you to look up stuff that way.

You'd probably need to measure your seal size then look up various cars to see what used that size seal, so you can figure out what car to order it for?
(Acura versions might not use the same parts or sizes either)

If you already have your seal out and it's not all mangled, measure it in millimeters --inside dia, outside dia, and thickness.
Also, which seal are you looking for? You are calling a spindle seal, I can't picture what that is.

I doubt a parts store would be able to order a seal by size alone, there's usually a lot more to it than that.

B16 application lists can be found in wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_B_engine#B16
Not sure is anyone has a list of transmissions that match various engines.
